Wiring size question...

ok, not new to car audio...well kinda but i have a "newbish" question. I have 4 gauge wire ran as my power wire and 5 gauge as my ground, does this make my 4 gauge wire pointless?

I guess that leads to my next question, wouldn't a bunch of 0/1 wire be pointless if you are only using like 10 gauge fir speaker wire to the sub? Think of it like a water hose, if you pinch the hose you only get the amount of water that goes through the smallest point...am i just stupid? Probably, anyone who wants to clear this up, please be my guest.

you might want to replace that 5 gauge for a 4 gauge, it should be pretty easy seeing as if you did it right, it should be less than 3 feet, unless you ran a ground back to your batt (which i doubt you did).

maybe he has just been posting in the lounge.

or maybe he is asking all his questions first before he even starts anything to prevent screwing anything up

is it really that big of a deal to you? if so you really need to get a life and get out more often.

The 5 gauge dosen't make the 4 pointless, it may not even be an issue at all if the 5 run is very short, ie there may be less voltage drop across a short 5 wire than a long 4. But if it is short why not just replace it? The wire size depends on how much current your amp draws, what's it's RMS and efficiency?
