The only way I would recommend running the Orion HCCA 250 gen 1 is if you actually had the amplifier and the bridging module to go with it. If you are having to buy from scratch, I recommend you go with the Sundown.

Don't get me wrong, the Orion was a beast in its day. Sadly, its capacitor life is at the end of its useful limits and you should get them replaced ASAP should you decide to go with the HCCA! I am talking about the power supply capacitors as well as the audio filter caps //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

I've actually already got the Sundown 1000D but because I'm old and still favor the old Orion stuff looking to change to the 250. I have a 225r running my front stage and love it was just thinking about going all Orion amps.

Sundown SAE-1000D1000 watts rms x 1 @ 1 ohm

Orion HCCA 250

800 watts rms x1 @ 1 ohm

on paper this is how it works out
I am a old school lover also, but the SAE will fun cooler use less power and give you more power and control at the end of the day.

the HCCA is simply cool as hell.

The other thing about those Orions is they are rated at 12 or 12.5 volts and underrated at that. IIRC, I know of some who were easilly getting 1,200 watts RMS out of the old school HCCA 250s!

The other cool thing is that THIS can be modified to use with an HCCA 250:

It serves as a bridging module, crossover, and allows you to install your subwoofer in a much smaller than usual sealed enclosure! It is an analog "feedback" device that makes the subwoofer play as if it is in its proper enclosure size. The only downside is I have the last production unit and the inventor, LW Erath, passed away in September 2008 //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/frown.gif.a3531fa0534503350665a1e957861287.gif

Well i voted sundown as its just a better amp for your application. But i am partial to old school too..Keep your sundown you will be happy with it..

Yea I'll keep it but like I say tho. I'm stubborn I still might get one and try just to prove to myself the difference. Thought about getting the 1200d just to get a little more power to the sub tho.
