Opinions regarding my noob system

First off, I'm Andrew and I'm 19 and currently at the University of Iowa.

Alright this is my first post and I was looking for some opinions regarding my system. I'm a Freshman in college and buying my automobile (94 Jeep Cherokee) and I want to upgrade the stereo. I was thinking head unit + subs + amp first and then upgrade the speakers a little later.

My head unit is the Sony CDX-F5700. I already have this item.

The subwoofers I'm pretty sure I'm going to get are Memphis PR's probably 12's. I want two subs and everything I've read really recommends them as entry level subwoofers. I also looked at http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vie...65395&rd=1&rd=1 for two MA Audio subwoofers in a box.

Amp wise I'm not really sure yet. I've been thinking of the Hifonics TXi5006 rated at 500W RMS @1 ohm. It is an A/B so I'm not sure if I should get something more powerful. I looked at Power Acoustik as well but the 2 channels confuse me.

I've never installed any of this stuff before but have made subwoofer boxes. I'll try to follow the Golden Ratio when I make the box this time if I don't buy subs that come with a box. Also, I'm thinking the Memphis PR's (DVC's) will be wired in parallel to a 1 ohm load? Is this correct since there are 4 voice coils?

Thanks in advance...Any opinions and sorry for the very long first post.

i biult a nice ported box for my cousin with 2 12 memphis pr subs.that thing hit nice for for entry level subs.it would be money spent.u also can get the pr subs in single voice coil or dual.at least u could with the old style.opens some options for u.

Thanks so far...I'd like 70% SPL and 30% SQL...I'm probably going to make a sealed enclosure because that will be a lot easier for me. Yes you can buy SVC or DVC and I think if I buy two DVC Memphis PR's wired in parallell it would be 1ohm. Is that correct?

Why not spend the extra $$$ on a Power Reference amp?? It'd give your system a nice matching feel. Plus, Hifonics amps tend to be a bit underrated and Memphis subs can take more than rated power.

I had MClass 12s and an MClass 500d for my first substage. That set up was great. Loved every memphis product I've ever come in contact with.

Yes, two dual 4ohm subs wired in parallel and in parallel again will present a 1 ohm load.

Don't worry about the golden ratio. And the PR's are FANTASTIC budget subs.Pretty much as good as you're going to get for how cheap you can get them.Good choice there. The hifonics amp looks like it'd be a decent match.

if your going for 70% SPL, why are you going sealed? Why not go ported, its meant to get loud that way.
The reason I'm not going ported is because I think it would be hard to make the box...If the design is easy I would consider making a ported box. Budget is pretty tight and I can't really spend more than 150-165 shipped on an amp. Any other suggestions?

There are a bunch of plans for different ported boxes in a sticky at the top of the Enclosures section. My suggestion is to save the extra $50 for the PR amp over the Hifonics. Hifonics amps tend to be overrated.

I can get the Hifonics amp for under 140 shipped...The Memphis amp looked like it would be 250 shipped
