Opinions on Some 18's...

18" RE SXs can be had for around $250 used when they pop up. I don't know how much they would like to be sealed though.

I do have a pair of 18s - RE HCs. They are like SXs, but a little stronger. The previous owner had them in a sealed box and he liked it - it was really loud and sounded okay, not Mag SQ or anything, but pretty loud.

Also, I'm only looking for $250 shipped a piece, so they are 18s that will get loud in a sealed box in your price range. Meh, let me know if you're interested.

Nothing against SeanDub or what he's pushing here, but I wouldn't use the HC's or SX's sealed personally. The world won't end, but there's probably better drivers out there for your application.

Like the IXL-18 and SSD. You're going to get a lot of low frequency output with an IXL-18 sealed in a vehicle. The SSD with copper coils is a viable option as well. Probably the two leaders of the pack at that price point.

The IXL definitely looks yummy, although I'm kinda weary about the >50hz reproduction...

I'm seriously considering the MJ's as I don't need a whole lot of xmax to get loud with a pair.

I also agree that SXs and HCs are not the best subs in the world for sealed applications, just throwing out some options in his price range.

I do not see the sense in buyin 18's just to seal them
Because I don't have the room to port two of them....2 18's sealed > 1 18 ported. Not having group delay issues is nice as well, as well as still being able to blend in with mids. A low FS 18 in a big ported box isn't going to be able to cleanly blend in with some mids 99% of the time.

what vehicle are these going in? to each his own i guess, but i personally wouldnt look to 18's to seal and blend with my mids..

SX's replaced HC's (and SExxx's). If anything, the SX is a step up from an HC.

sounds like a great idea for a sealed application

dumbass

fi does have some decent options though.. a q od ssd seems like a good candidate, as well as the mach 5 options..

I have some ed 19ov.2s I had sealed for a bit, and loved them as well

cause they will be accurate, drop low, and be pretty loud due to cone area, sounds good to me, im pretty sure im breaking 145's with my 18's sealed...

i think SSD's would be your best bet in that price range...

ahh i just assumed it would end up being ported as well thats all really sealed id have to say alpine(which sux) or jl audio they are both very good in sealed boxes but why not poerted is it size
Alpine and JL are good for sealed apps huh? You are just a wealth of informtation aren't you. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/rolleyes.gif.c1fef805e9d1464d377451cd5bc18bfb.gif You didnt even mention models genius. And if you say a type R, Im gonna laugh at you. You've been warned.
