The Vibe 251 isn't a great amp, and it's over-rated. I can't tell you exactly what it does, but with 2x25A fuses it has to be somewhere around 500 or 600w bridged at 4 ohms. No where near the 1300w it claims in the manual.

The Profile AP1200 will produce about the same power for about $115 shipped.

i agree with you this time pawn man. i ran a lanzar opti sl800d for a while and it was a very nice little amp. opti is the only lanzar line i would trust
ok well ill have to look else where b/c i cannot afford a $500 amp what are some other good budget amps that will do 300x2 @ 4 or 600x1 @2 or 4

this is what Lanzar specs the Vibe at

SPECS

2 x 400 Watts RMS @ 4 Ohms

2 x 800 Watts Max @ 4 Ohms

1 x 1600 Watts Max @ 4 Ohms Bridged

2 x 650 Watts @ 2 Ohms RMS

so the profile may be a good choice for my application and where to get for 115

I know, and sadly, that's ridiculously over-rated. The 2x25A fuses won't tell you precise power, but 650x2 at 2 ohms is the same as saying 1300w bridged at 4 ohms, and there is no way that's even CLOSE to realistic.

Actually it's 110 + shipping -- so I guess it's around $125, but still a decent amp with quite a bit of power for the price.

srry for the double post but the edit didnt work but when i set my LP Crossover Frequency lets say i set it at 60Hz that means no freq over 60 will go to my sub right?
Well, not exactly. Crossover points aren't just a wall that no higher (for LP) frequencies can pass. It's the point where frequencies begin to "roll off". With the LP at 60, a 61hz signal will barely be effected, a 65hz signal will be slightly quieter, a 70hz signal will be noticably quieter, 80 significantly quieter and so on. The rate of this "rolling off" depends on the slope of the crossover. 6db/octave rolls of slowly, 12db/octave a little faster. Generally higher slope crossovers are more complex to design/build, usually more desirable for the sq types and therefore more expensive. Although 12db crossovers are very common and perfectly adequate for most everyone.

so if i have an JL 8 tuned to 35Hz what should be the max LP Crossover Frequency to set at?
I tend to set my sub LP's as high as I can w/o them sounding muddy. A good 8" (such as JL) in a good enclosure may play well up to several hundred hz. It's just something you'll have to listen to and find out for yourself.

Cadence for $116: but with only 2x20 fuses I doubt it can actually do 600w, maybe 400-500.

Lanzar Optidrive for $150: It's only around 500w, but it's higher priced because it's a full range class D which makes it physically small, and also more efficient than most 2 ch amps.

The Profile still stands out as a really good buy.

Well, not exactly. Crossover points aren't just a wall that no higher (for LP) frequencies can pass. It's the point where frequencies begin to "roll off". With the LP at 60, a 59hz signal will barely be effected, a 55hz signal will be slightly quieter, a 50hz signal will be noticably quieter, 40 significantly quieter and so on. heres the spec to the amp maybe some help on settings ive never had a ported box so as far as what being "tuned" to actually means i have no F'n idea

actually I did the numbers backwards - I've edited things above.

It's really not that complicated. You just have to recognize crossovers don't "block" unwanted frequencies, they roll them off at a particular rate depending on the slope of the crossover.

The Profile amps are the typical 12db/octave.

Tuning the enclosure is just a function of the volume of the box and the dimensions of the port. Based on the free air performance of the subwoffer a series of complex calculations (and/or testing different enclosures) can determine the best enclosure for any given sub. The manual for the JL 8w3 gives pretty specific instructions for building a good ported enclosure -- I would just stick to something pretty close to their specs if I were you.

As far as amp settings - you'll set the crossover switch to low pass, and I would start with it high, you can take it down as low as you want if you don't like the sound you get with up high.

The gain setting depends on the signal strength coming from the source unit, but to save you further confusion I would just put it somewhere between 9:00 and 12:00.

Use as little bass boost as possible. None is ideal.

The manual gives some pretty good guidelines for adjusting the amp's settings.

so im between the Hifonics and the Profile so which would be better

and heres the type of box im running its .5^3 ft per chaber and ported to 35Hz with a 10.5" amp rack in the center runnig 2- JL 8W3V3.

so would the profile amp be a good choice for this app

Ive owned from profile an SX600(410rmsmono) California ap1200 and a Baja ap1000 and they all have put out alot of power and never failed on me...
