Opinions on DD 1515??

I am trading a member some items for a Mint DD1515 and would like to know more about it. I'm picking it up to try without knowing much about the product becuase i know if i don't like it , it will be easy as hell to trade off for something different. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

What i would like to know is everybody says they sound "hollow"?? WTF does a hollow sub sound like? LOL. also the DD website mentions tuning it to 40hz , yet it has a Fs of 24 hz. Can i tune it lower? like 32-36?? Also how under rated is the power handling? It says 500 watts on the site and i have see a older single coil model (which is what i'm getting) on another forum with a 800 rms sticker on it. I have never owned or heard anything made by DD so i'm very curious. Also are they quick subs? I listen to lots of metal and need accurate and extremley fast lows. Can this provide that? Any and all opinions are welcome. I'm getting the sub no matter what but i just want to know what to expect. Also any box recommendations are welcome as well. Thanks.

didn't like the higher end response from them in that box and he wanted almost new price for them. I didnt want to pay 210 for them and then come to find out after experimenting that i couldn't get the upper end response i'm looking for. to make matters worse one has a patched tear in the surround. which means if i pay 210 for them there is no way i can sell them for that anywhere else. ya know?

no where have you been. LOL. they are my little brothers subs. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/laugh.gif.48439b2acf2cfca21620f01e7f77d1e4.gif i have dropped videos on here of them in his truck and even dropped pics of his setup on here. He wants too much for them. I was contemplating getting them but didnt. I'm running 2 pioneer 12's in my car right now.

As far as the hollow sound, to me they seem so have a "limited" response when they are new.

My new 3512 actually sounded like *** for the first....3 days or so. Same box, same amps and it had no low(45ish on down) end response. After the 3 days I started burping it for 10sec or so about 20 times through out the day and it "loosened up" a lot. It can literally flex my entire truck with 35hz tones.(current box is tuned to 44hzish and is 2 cuft)

Out of all of the DD's that I have tried, I have only had/noticed this twice. With this 3500 and a 1508, all the others seemed ready out of the box.

Now, power wise your 1515 should do 1k clean just fine as I have sent that daily to a 1508 with out issue. For tuning, stick to the 16" of port and using a tad more will help the low end. You can tune as low as you like but do seem to like the 36-45 range. Other than that, I do not have experience

with the 1515.

Can't go wrong with the 1500 series. they'll take a good bit more then 500w for sure, but the 15 is a big cone for that size magnet/motor so it'll be thermally limited faster then mechanically. you can tune low but not needed. 36-38 is where to go. and yes they'll kick nice and "quickly" especially if you don't try tuning it low.

cool. maybe i will stick to around 38hz

well i'm gonna be powering mine on 800. but its a single coil model which i'm guessing is a little older. I seen a single coil 1515 on another forum and it had a sticker that said 800RMS on it. so i think i will be fine.
