Of course, but since a class D is usually about twice as efficient as a class A - A/B that effectively doubles your headroom within the same power supply. A 500 watt class A amp would draw as much power as a 1000+ watt class D amp. Since subs generally need about an order of magnitude greater amplifier power than mid/highs the difference in using class D sub amps is significant. Otherwise dynamic peaks in a class A sub amp will probably be effected by the cars limited power supply, making class D amps the superiour choice for fidelity if the limited powers supply is the weak link.
