One sub vs two

Hmmm... is this a wiring question? Or a sub question? Or maybe an amp question? Ah, hell, general...

Hypothetical question:

One amp (don't really care what kind it is, it isn't important) is wired to one sub at 4 ohms (or 2 or 1, it really doesn't matter).

If you purchased an identical sub and rewired so that the two subs created the same 4 ohm load, powered of the same amplifier as before....

Would you produce more sound?

essentially yes, more cone area = more air being moved

but if your box sucks...then no

OK, cone area FTW, that's what I thought.

But, will the two subs split the power output of the amp or will they both 'see' the same power the single sub does? Seems to me that with two subs, all else being the same, the power must be 1/2. If in parallel, the voltage will be the same but the current will split. If series, the current will be the same but the voltage will split. Thus, 1/2 power to each sub.

Am I simply overanalyzing the situation?

OK, cone area FTW, that's what I thought.

They each receive 50% of the total power output from the amplifier.
