one of my subs stopped while playing what would cause this and fix the problem

If you can find an alternator that will fit in a 2004 saab 9-5 sportwagon that is bigger than mine, I would be VERY surprised. also, its a Kinetik HC800 cell i was looking at, but im rather open to options, money isnt a huge issue.

Have you contacted any companies for quotes? Most of these places build them custom so I can almost guarantee they could make one for you.

I have not, I had no idea places will custom build alternators. Are they actually reliable? what kind of price range would I expect to see? Who would you recomend me contact?

Usually more reliable if from the right people, google DC Power or mechman

Because they're built better / more reliable, usually more expensive, i'd expect at least 300 if not 4 or 5

High Output alternators are kind of a specialty, I can't really think of any other reason as to why you'd need one in a car other than Car Audio so your not going to walk into Autozone and order a bigger alt. Yes if you buy your alt from a good company it will be reliable, I would NOT recommend buying a cheap one off ebay no matter how good of a deal it seems...DC Power and Mechman are two of the most popular companies here.

would the HO alt be a must have? or would I be able to pass off otherwise? I really dont want to custom fabricate mounts for it. Would the power cells be something acceptable?

what is so bad about where my gains are at?
bc gains are meant to compensate for the output voltage of your head unit, if the gains are higher than needed the amp will draw more power from your vehicle and send a dirty signal to your subs causing them to over heat and possibly blow.

your gains being set at 4/5 means they are too high or your rca voltage is super low, if the rca voltage is low and they are set properly youre good, but if not this could be playing a part in your issue

ur clipping the shiit out of ur subs thats whats wrong with where they are at...u do not have the electrical to support gains that high.....cant wait till u come back in here saying "omg my amp doesnt work" or "omg my subs dont work at all anymore"
learn to set ur gains dont just crank them.....

the subs are not overheating or blowing, I have spent around 2 hours ajusting the amps dials to make the best sounds for my taste. I know when a sub is over-powering, and I know that it isnt. I highly believe my gains are set properly.

if they are set properly for the subs and voltage then youre running too much power on not enough electrical.

NO! The system draws power from the alt while the car is running...Your system only relies on battery power when it is wayyyy too late and your alt is struggling hard...Batteries are NOT meant to supply huge current draw for extended time periods....They are meant to start the car, and act as a buffer between the alt and system...

Alternator = Power.
