One more Qu. about my new Type x's

Anyone else have this problem or know what is causing this? I have a new alpine type x in a slot ported box, and an alpine 1000 watt amp in a 95 mustang gt...

the sub hits mid frequencies great, has a little trouble with the higher frequencies, and really struggles with the low frequencies (like 15-25 Hz).

My guess is that my box is tuned too high or was built too small. I just want great bass over low to high frequencies. is that even possible? thanks.

I dont think it is very wise too be playing 15-25 hz in a ported box. Unless you actually choose to tune that low in your car //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif. You can't even hear 15hz.

measurements of the box are 17.5 x 16 x 13 in. the port is 2.25 x 11.5 in. wood is about .6 in. thick.

my subsonic filter is at the lowest setting. maybe i shouldn't even worry about it, but i listen to alot of rap with low frequency bass and it doens't sound right. its annoying the crap out of me cuz i was expecting a type x to hit the notes clearly.

ya'll think the thin wood could be the cause for the lack of low frequencies? i'm just gonna take it back to the shop i bought everything from and tell them to get me a better box. My previous system couldn't play low frequencies either... just sick of it.

It's possible the box is actually resonating at certain frequencies causing it to miss others. Thicker wood will cause the box to flex and resonate less.

It's also the size of the enclosure. That's a really small enclosure, even for a 10". Generally, the larger the enclosure and the port, the lower it hits. I think it's tuned rather high, personally. Though, remember, there's no need for anything lower than 20. Even 25 is still pretty low. Below 20, you just kinda feel a thud-thud-thud, and about 20, you often hear the resonance from the actual port rather than the sound from the driver. 30hz is the lowest you'd ever have to worry about. VERY few songs have any bass lower than that (though TLC's "Girl Talk" has a really low section, as does "Lady Marmalade" from the Moulin Rouge sound track), and the functional bass in most music is about 35-100hz. So, don't worry about missing out on the low stuff.

You can get better low-end extension by making your box bigger, if you really must have it.

I took it back to the shop, and they switched out my box. They took out my ported one and gave me a sealed. Sounds 100% better at lower frequencies! I didn't think this sub would sound good sealed, but it does.

I plan on getting a custom box in a few weeks when i have the money... Is there a difference in sq between fiberglass and 3/4" mdf?

A world without bass hey....thats gotta **** big time. So was this box built as a pre fab? it can't be built to specs if its not 3/4 '' dude .

The type x will pound really hard and its clean....the box is your problem.
