Wow I love how certain people assume others as idiots without knowing them. Because I have an outlook about this situation that is different from what your outlook is I become an idiot ... I am an idiot about car audio, yet I hold a world record. I thoroughly know ported enclosures and have good knowledge about bandpass. I can explain most t/s parameters with pretty good accuracy off the top of my head. I have NEVER built a ported enclosure that resulted in anything less than good results. I apologize that I don't hold the hate that you hold for people. I was just pointing out a unbiased opinion. You seem to hold a lot of hate for somebody you don't even know. Judging people on here I really hope you have a good knowledge of bass and how it works. Distortion, in and of itself, does not damage a speaker in any way. Not only was your comment wrong, it shows a fundamental flaw in your knowledge of how speakers work, and fail. So spare me the resume, your own logic tells me your knowledge level better anyway.

lol, it was a wall in the first place, just because it wasn't sealed around the outside, didn't mean it wasn't a wall.

I hadn't sealed it before the competition simply because I had no time to do it, I finished the box about half an hour before I had to leave.

so dipshit, you can get off your high horse now, if you think that cardboard, and gaffa tape, can turn a "normal" subwoofer box into a wall, then you're even stupider than I first thought

I never said your 'box' wasn't competition worthy, nor that you did a 'bad' job in anyway. Try to keep up with me, I'll type really slowly for you here.... all I said originally was it was not a true 'wall' design, and it wasn't. The difference between a 'wall' and just a really big box in your cabin... is its properties of sealing off the cabin in order the minimize cabin space to be pressurized. Again, repeating myself here. Aparently all you saw was someone not saying 'omgzorz its awesome nice job!!!11!' so you took it as a slam. Aparently you are way too sensitive. Nice try, I never said one way or the other. I simply stated what makes an install a wall or not, you can dance around that truth all you want.

As far as classing that as a wall in a db drag event it would.But an actual "wall" it isn't,until it is sealed from the rear portion of the vehicle.

1.) overpower - overpowering will cause great amounts of heat...

2.) distortion - a large amount of distortion even in small power applications can blow the best sub! (dc heats coils very fast)

NOW why this holds so much water . Mike the designer/owner of shocker audio had said this. Possibly the best woofer ever built for spl extremely intelligent man

I dont care how you want to interpret those words, distortion does not destroy a speaker. There are two ways to destroy one, thermally, and mechanically. Period. 'Underpowering' a speaker, even with distortion, will not blow it thermally.
The only thing you've proven is that you have a very shallow knowledge of the subject. This is not me attempting to be a jerk, this is me stating you are not the expert here that you portray yourself as. However, I do apologize for the idiot remark. Just because someone is acting like one does not mean I need to say so. I was being lazy, and instead of explaining, I cut to the chase.

They did the test with low power amps and just clipped the hell out of the signal sent to a sub. guess what, big surprise none of the subs blew. Not even close. No smell, no heat from the cone at all. Why? because it cant be done.

chuck a heavily clipped signal, from a 75watt amp, into a 100watt speaker, and see what happens.
