On/off switch

I have an on/off switch installed in my vehicle that turns the amp on and off. My original switch stopped working because my amp wouldn't turn on. I installed a new switch that worked fine for a few days, but now this switch won't turn the amp off. My amp still turns on and off when the headunit is turned on and off. What's the deal here? Am I buying the wrong kind of switches or what?

And bc a lot of people will ask, I have the switch installed bc my girlfriend doesn't like the sub so I switch it off (sometimes hehehe) when she is in my truck.

I think so? Like I said, the switch worked perfectly for a few days, but doesn't turn the amp off now. The amp still powers on and powers off with the headunit.

Yep just went out and looked. The wires are on there solid. I thought that may be the cause of it too since it's basically like the switch isn't even there

Not sure what you mean by taco switch. Mine is a basic red rocker switch

taco switch... switches go bad often depending on use.. but first thing to do is to check wiring... take off switch touch two wires together does it power up.. if so switch is bad if it still dont power up check wiring issue lays else where...

try wiring the switch directly from a 12v source thats fused really low (or make your own). i cant imagine a switch would be incompatible with the remote wire, but then again ive never heard of switches failing like this lol

Amp powers on when I touch the wires together. Do I need some sort of heavy duty switch or something? Lol This is the second switch I've gone through in a couple weeks since I've had the amp and sub installed.

Can you explain how to wire the switch to a 12 volt source? Like which wires go where?

ive got a cheap dollar taco switch from hardware store on my remote wire and had 5k + on it... id have to check my system out... theres a electrical problem thats killing ur switches... mine go bad maybe once every 4-6 years... lol

you can just pull it from your distro block if you have one or from any hot 12v wire in your car that's convenient, you just need to make sure it's fused or you add a fuse. all you do is splice in your own wire.

you shouldnt need a heavy duty swtich, amps require less than 1 amp to turn on, usually much much less. your headunit would probably die before the switch if the current was too high.
