Old Vs New

Besides obvious things like iPod connectivity, Sat/HD radio, Bluetooth etc are newer HU's that much better than older ones? I am trying to figure out what HU I want to get, I want great SQ, preferably want to run active. I have been looking at used CDA-7998, CDA-9835 or new CDA-9887. I am also debating getting a double din as I don't like the look of single dins in my dash, so looking at either used IVA-W200 / W205 and then saving to get a PXA-H701 to allow me to go active, use TA etc.

Just wondering if the CDA-7998/9835 are better SQ than CDA-9887. I did have a Pioneer, but I hated it.

A lot of older headunits have arguably better SQ performance than the newer ones. I find that older Eclipse headunits sounded much better than the new ones, same with Alpine's.

those look like Alpine model numbers...

I really don't like the look of most new Alpines. I like the old six green buttons.

people shure pay alot for the old 7909 on ebay. must be worth something.

I think I am probably going to end up going with an Alpine W200/W205 (or maybe a W505) and then save up for a PXA-H701 processor. I really don't like the look of single DIN's in my dash, something about it just looks odd, and so from reading a lot on here the W200/205 and H701 combo is hard to beat.

??? I have never heard of a loudness button on any stereo adding more power, I have heard of loudness buttons boosting certain frequencies to make things sound louder, but have read that if a system is set up correctly you should not need things like loudness buttons, MX, BBE etc
