Old speakers

I want a BMW 635CSi
I have a 1967 Firebird with an AM Radio leading to one stinkin' speaker in the back. I bought new speakers, but ran in to a problem. The old speaker had only one wire recepter, while the new speakers call for two. There is only one wire coming from the radio, so what do I do? Should I split the wire and splice them to the two receptors on the new speaker?

Also, I want to ad a second rear speaker. How do I wire it given that the factory AM radio only has one lead coming from it to the rear? Do I really have to buy another radio just to get a second speaker? Thanks.

I think the reason for the single wire is because that used to be a common ground radio in that vehicle. If it's the original radio just take the ground terminal for the speaker and ground it to the chassis. If you have a new/modern head unit you need to run new speaker wires to each speaker. Don't ground out the terminal if you have a new head unit.
