I used to be into the old school mentality until I realized that the newer amplifiers were more efficient, had less noise issues, and generated much more power. Now, nothing in my two vehicles is older than 5 years old, whereas I am running a custom servo and amplifier combination in my wife's vehicle.
I guess it all boils down to end-user preference. If one wants to run the best technology that was available 15 to 20 years ago, I won't berate them for that.
Unfortunately, there are a lot of lies and misconceptions with some of the overpriced old school gear available on the market and one has to use a little bit of common sense to see through the hype and the bullshіt. There was this one brand in particular, where I was told that they were grossly underrated and could be perfected with modifications. For example, their 4x50 watt amplifier had a 25 amp fuse yet boasted a rating of 325x2 when bridged. Sorry, but that 325x2 is a pipe dream unless they figured out a way to violate Ohm's Law and self-generate power with 25 amps of fusing.
Now the same repair tech who had me sold on that brand of amplifiers is telling people to let their ears be the judge because it has been proven over and over again that there is NO WAY that particular brand will make the power numbers they claimed. I just hope no one lets that tech con them into having their amplifiers modified because that is more snake oil that will provide an inaudible power difference, change the amplifier's sonic signature, and reduce its useful life.
Oh yeah, there was a point to this. Just be careful and ensure that lies propagated from the past don't cloud your judgement. I wouldn't want to see anyone else being nostalgic get burned like I did. Finally, I do find it funny how marketing, lies, hype, and bullshіt tend to cloud one's judgement allowing them to toss logic and reason aside because I made that mistake myself three years ago when I was feeling nostalgic.//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/redface.gif.62fdbfe1a101588a808c4cff71bcb942.gif
