Old School Install

Evening Gang....great forum!

For those of you who like to spend other's money - here's your chance to help design a system for a 85 Jeep CJ7. First - let's start with what I'm committed to installing... I need to pick out:

- 6x9's for a set of boxes that wrap around the rollbars (near bottom)

- 2 sets of 5.25's for the dash and a centerpod that is bolted to the floor (in front of the shofter.

- 1 set of 6.5's for the 1/2 doors

- 1 high quality 8" sub for the center console sub box

- A decent headunit (prefer Alpine) that has 3 sets of RCA pre-outs

Lastly....the old school part....I plan to power some of this equipment using some of my old stuff from my younger days (10'ish years ago). I've got 2 Rockford Punch 75's on the shelf that I'd like to put back into service. If you're wondering why I'm trying to use old amps....refrence the fact that this is an 85 CJ7 - and we know how easy things seem to disappear from open Jeeps.

OK - so here's the catch...it's gotta be (somewhat) weather resistant (refrence Jeep w/o top in rainstorm). With that, my limited research has me intially leaning toward Polk Audio's momo series coax speakers.

Help! I've been away from this for a long time. Need advice. Especially in the area of sub choices. PLease be specific when recomending equipment to include voicecoil #'s and ohm ratings.

Game on.

Quick follow up...

Note that I'm willing to use the stereo power to power some of my speakers. Assume that I'd power the 2 sets of 5.25's with my HU of choice.

Keep in mind....its an open Jeep (top rarely on). I need volume...and lots of it.

I look forward to the reponses!!!

You don't need that many speakers, Trust me, you can do without the 5.25's, and just use the amp in stereo 2ohm to drive the 6.5's and 6x9's. HQ sub: Image Dynamics IDQ or ID series.

Edit: weather resistant: Just go all Polk DB series speakers, and get a 8" Polk MOMO subwoofer. Save yourself some $$ and it will still sound awesome. It is an open top, and you're not going to have an SQ system with all that wind noise.

RE: Jacko's post...

First....big thanks for the input. DB series are definately cheaper - and you're correct in that the open top will lose most sound anyway.

Question - when picking out a Polk momo 8" sub, should I grab a single our dual voice coil sub? Keep in mind that I'm old school punch 75 power (42.5x2 I think).

Appreciate the quick feedback.
