Old School guy needs new system

Hey guys, I have been doing systems for a while, but things have changed lately and I am looking to build a new system.

My last system was an Eclipse cd7100 HU, a Soundstream Van Gogh 500.4 running on Van Gogh 6.5 comps front and rear, a Van Gogh 1600.2 Amp running on 2 10" IDMax v2 subs.

My 500.4 died, and Soundstream no longer repairs this unit, so I am going with a new amp brand. I am thinking Sundown right now, they have good reviews on here.

I am also thinking about a Pioneer HU (double DIN), since they have 4V pre outs.

Most of the old brands are a shell of their former self (except ID). The system is for a F150 crew cab, so I am looking for shallow subs. I was thinking about the RE Audio 10" shallow subs, but I am open to any ideas.

Can anybody suggest what would match or exceed what I have now? Any advice would be appreciated.

thanks!

welcome to the forum the new Soundstream is crap compared to the old... //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/fyi.gif.9f1f679348da7204ce960cfc74bca8e0.gif
That is what I hear. I got into Soundstream with a Class A 6.0, then two 10.0s (still have them), then the VanGoghs, which are pretty good amps. It just ticks me off that they do not repair them. I am trying to get schematics and repair the 500.4 myself. I am not sure what killed it, everything checks out fine, and I threw another amp in with no probs. Some parts are too burnt for me to read the #s off of, so I need a schematic to repair.

I was checking out those subs, but I worry about them not being in stock. Before I bought the IDMax subs, I was thinking about Brahma subs, but could never get my hands on one. Now they are out of business.

****, the Morels are pretty pricey! Any other suggestions? I like the ideas though. I like the thought of "underground" or less popular brands that make kick *** products. I still have 3 JL 12W6 subs, and at the time I got them, nobody had really heard of JL. Any reason why you chose Arc over Sundown?

Thanks for the ideas

The VGA are great amps. With the hawkins setup. I loved them. If you want that one fixed, there are repair guys on the forum that can get it done.
I might do that. I have 3 of the 1600.2 amps, and a 320.4 that is in the car now because the 500.4 died. I will try to get schematics, but if I can't, I will try to find someone to fix it. I like the fact that they were made in the USA, kind of rare in these times //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

They have a good deal of power too. I have used all the VGA amps at one time or anther and loved them. Wish I would have kept a few more though(but I sold a good deal of them only keeping the nib ones for myself).

They do sell decently quick on here most of the time(depending on pricing).

I would look into getting the 500.4 fixed though. There are a few qualified forum members that can fix and guarantee that it is as good as new or better.

Does any one person come to mind with repairing Soundstream? I also have a 10.0 that I would like repaired.

Thanks!

James

There's nothing underground about the stuff I recommended. It's all top shelf equipment. Seriously, Morel and Arc Audio are about as high end as it gets.

Those SI shallow mount subs I showed you are widely regarded as the best shallow mount woofers on the market. It'd be a good idea to wait for the restock.

I'd choose Arc over Sundown for several reasons.

1. Sundown amplifiers are mass produced in korea. I'm not saying they're bad, but there are a number of companies selling the EXACT same amplifiers as Sundown...some of them are cheaper too.

2. I prefer the look of the Arc amps over Sundown 1,000 to 1.

3. The Arc Audio amplifiers were designed by a legend in the car audio field (Robert Zeff).
