Old School Early 1990's Amp Guy

Head was an Alpine, 2 sets of MB Quarts Separates, 2 12 Stillwater Designs Solo Baric subs, All pushed by Phoenix Gold MS2125, (2) MS275, 425 & crossed over with (2) AX406's that was running 1/2 Ohm to the 12's!!! (Happened to find the old pics from 1993
Looks nice and that was all good stuff in it's day. You could have started your own thread for those pics though.

Have you done anything lately? I have fond memories of a lot of that stuff too but wouldn't use any of it today outside of some sort of restoration/show project car type application (which I'd never do anyway).

The above was installed by a shop no longer around (cause I WOULD drive 2,000 miles for Todd to do another system) Cruisin' Music in NJ. Right now, I have a Pioneer head, Crossfire 12's drove by a crossfire C5 1000D, Audio Dynamics ADMK 1000.6 driving the Audio dynamics mids & highs (front & rear) as well as a pair of kicker 8s on the door for mid bass. Went with an aftermarket high output alternator & 2nd battery. (& the check engine light has been on ever since! New cars dont like 14V I guess) installed by Cre8tive Auto Works in Arizona.

Nice. Sounds like you have pretty decent modern stuff now. IMO the state of technology has come a long way and almost all of that stuff we used 30 years ago is obsolete by about every measure.

Hello! Thanks for having me in your amazing Forum! I'm very excited to meet some new friends and discuss car audio. It seems it's been a while since I was able to discuss this passion of mine with my friends since they all are now married with children and have long given up the passion / hobby / addiction.

I'm interested in learning more about the new school car audio systems as well but my passion remains and will always remain with the old school US made amplifiers that powered the systems from the early to mid 1990's.

Thanks again for having me in this amazing Forum! Very excited to learn more!
Welcome

Hi. You and I are in the same boat. I just joined the forum last night. I was really into it in the late 80's and early 90's. Since then I have had a couple of moderate systems, but nothing that sounded as good as the old stuff. I have decided that I am going to install a lower wattage system in my truck geared towards SQ using old PG amps. I have no desire to mess up my hearing any more than it already is so a lower wattage system will be fine with me.
I would like to hear what folks have to say about the modern component/separates speakers. I was disappointed to see that MB Quart has gone to shit. What modern brands out there match the old MB Quarts in SQ?

I also will be installing an old school amplifier set up later on next year in one my trucks. All Autotek BTS or White Mean Machines. For todays components... I would recommend Polk Audio MM series, Infinity Kappa Series, and Take a look at the CDT HD series. Welcome to the site!

Thanks for the info. I have been looking at Polk, Infinity, Focal, and Audio Frog. I wish I could listen to all 4 in person to compare, but all of the good shops are gone.
I bet your Autotek system will sound great. Is Steve Mantz the one who designed the Autotek amps?

That series and a few more he did(Autotek Mean Machine, BTS,Hifonics VI,VII,VIII,series,USA US Acoustics Series II) and several others. Ive been running these amps for a very long time. Thanks, Im hoping the installs turn out very well. Great quality built amps. Polk Audio MM series are some of the best budget bang for the $ atm from my experiences would be my 1st choice, its a run off between CDT HD series and Infinity Kappas for my 2nd choices, and Image Dynamics 3rd. I havent found Focal to be incising for my budget nor Audio Frog. If I were going to spend on the expensive side..Hertz Mille have been some of the best speakers Ive heard on a Gladden amplifier

I really appreciate the advice. I was lucky enough to have purchased a professionally recapped Phoenix Gold MQ-430 earlier this week. I plan on using it for my mids and highs. I still need to purchase a amp for the subs. I will most likely buy a Phoenix Gold MS-2125. I still haven't decided what subs to buy. I really like the sound quality of JL Audio. I have owned them in the past and I was very satisfied with the sound.
