Old School Amp Buyers... beware!

I figured I would start a thread about the last old school amp that I will EVER purchase off of ebay, no matter how nostalgic I feel.

For the longest time, I have been wanting to get a Punch 150 from the same model line that I had in my high school days. I found one on e-gay, bought it, and I had to open the amp up to get to the power wire because it was too short. Look at what I found:

That was the third "old school" amp that I purchased off of e-Gay that had problems with it since July of this year. As a result, I am done with old school amps on e-Gay!

To recap, I purchased:

an Orion 250 SX that had two burnt resistors and some blown output stage MOSFETs;

A Linear Power 1502IQ that had a broken speaker relay as well as needing another gain POT;

The Punch 150 pictured above, which was the proverbial straw that broke this Camel's back.

Sure there are some good sellers out there BUT this was the third old school amp in a row that I purchased that had issues with it! Not all my eBay transactions were this bad and I am not swearing it off all together for items, but I am swearing eBAY off all together for old school car audio!

ETA: This was the THIRD old school amp out of THREE that I purchased on eGay that had problems! That is a 100% unsuccessful rate... OUCH!

Its not that hard to replace a few resistors. But ****. I would be pissed to. Thanks for the heads up.

Oddly, for this amp, the seller refunded my money.

For the other two amps, I ended up sending them out to be repaired because I had specific uses intended for them. Sadly, the sellers didn't even respond to me regarding problems with the other two amplifiers, and that pissed me off to the point where I almost didn't get the Punch 150.

Which makes this seller a good guy. But...buying old shit, you have no idea who's had it before you. Just enjoy your new shit, and be content to remember.

that sucks, i have had a few things come not working as well. some sellers take care of the problem and some dont. it is frustrating though.

i got a punch 200ix that is still sitting here needing a gain pot for the left channel because one of the legs was broke when it got here. now i cant find a set of gain pots without buying a broken amp.

Wow. I'd get that fixed.

I asked the seller if he wanted it back since he refunded me. I gave him the option of selling it for Parts on e-Gay. If he says he doesn't want it back, I may get it fixed.

Other than that, my dd1010 will like the new 25 to Life Punch 150 that birthed @ 1003 watts

I plan to set it to deliver 600 watts RMS to my SVC dd1010 @ 4 ohms with a 0 dB 50 Hz test tone while using the rest of the power reserved for headroom.

Imagine the next time some random kid comes up to me with his bragging about his 1200 watt Legacy amp, and I tell him that I am only running 300 watts....

i have wanted to try those 25 to life amps, they reflect their os amps and i love the cheater amps. i have two still new crossfire 15hc's rated at 15wx2 but do about 500w and also have a cadence z1200 that is rated at 25w@4 500@2 1200@1. all three of those amps together makes 85 watts rated lol. but do over 2k together.

i had that one time on an os amp i got from ebay he refunded and said to just keep it. hope this guy does the same for you.
