Old Dudes! I Need Help Choosing a Major!

There is "good" money in blue-collar jobs that don't require a lot of schooling. Now I'm not talking about 100k, but you can live a "comfortable" life doing these jobs. Electrcian, plumber, etc...

Im in the computer industry and I can tell you from experience, the money is not what you think yeah some jobs you can make an assload of money but IT is the first to get restructured. Every 2 years you will go 6 months without work while looking for a new job until you finally settle for a state or gov job then you dont make shit.

and real estate appraiser does not take 6 years in FLA, dont know about where he was from.

i dont want a blue-collar job.. im going to be the first in my family to go through with colleg and i want to go all the way with it with a BA. so with that in mind, id like to get a BA in something that pays extremely well.. im willing to work hard for it as long as im guaranteed success eventually.. im looking for quick success though i dont want to pour 4 years of internship into a job, unless they pay me well.

ok, right now im leaning toward financial advisor or engineering.. i want the big bucks.. anyone know what kind of schooling finan advisors need? how baout experience? and finding a job as an engineer shouldn't be hard if i go that route right?

If you want the big bucks you are going to take some hard *** classes in college, few people make the big bucks for a reason. Its hard work and it takes a lot of time to get where you want to be. What college do you plan on going to?

When I started work for Wachovia they were hiring top grads straight out of college for around 57-65ish..

BUT

For those jobs they were only looking for 1-4 people and you had to be in the top 1% of your class. With a long list of work experience in a related field.

THe other (regular joes) financial grads they hired were around 35-40ish and they were not/are not being groomed for management positions.

Your looking for any quick and easy degree for a high paying job, and you wonder why your having issues. I think you may want to give a bit on either end to find something you like. I'd rather make 50,000 a year and be happy vs 100,000 and think my job was "ok"

You kinda sound like me so I'll tell ya what I did...in a sense that your good with computers, work on cars, and onviously we share an enthusiasm for audio. I'm major in mechanical engineering and while it may not pay the best...its something that I love. Tinkering with shit, rebuilding it, finding a way to make it run better, smoother or stronger. I got into a program at the college I was at call "Formula SAE" that essentiall designs, fabs, tests and races a forumla or off road style race car. Its something you might look into if your serious about cars...

If you are truly good at math I would say Engineering, either electrical or mechanical. I work for one of the largest privately owned companies in the world and they pay engineers top $$$, especially mechanical. The jobs pay well, you are not on your a$$ all day, and there is lots of opportunity in the market for it.

The fastest way to make money .. Drug dealing ... lol j/k .. but if you go through college and get a BA .. go engineering //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

I wouldn't reccomend a financial advisor job. You work on commission and have responsibilty without control. If you choose are a finance major and do not advise/plan, the you will spend all day in front of a computer or in meetings. The work really sucks. I may look into this appraiser deal, but I assume that will be commission or fee based as well. I just don't like the idea of working on commission or sales or that I become indebted to my company for advancing me money in a slow cycle.

Don't shirk government jobs. I work for the federal government and get some good perks; foreign language training, take trips to across US for free for training, the work isn't too stressful or to hard, if I get BRACd or RIFd then I have get an advantage in finding new jobs.

first off youll be old soon ya little prick....

secondly,if you wanna make the big bucks sales is where its at,I make stupid money

with nothing more than fast talk and knowing my product and service ,u dont learn that shit in college..

business major is nice t have under your belt but if you wanna go one of them stick figure jobs be a dentist and become a stick figure (Dr ,Lawyer, accountants etc)

Every dentist I have met works low hours and makes huge bank,my thieving dentist

nailed me for 950.00 for an hours work dam stick figure bastid,I should have been a dentist

Software engineering is TOUGH man. Just because you're good with computers, doesn't mean you are going to be a good programmer. I'm the "goto" guy when it comes to computers for alot of people. And **** just for my 200 level classes they take up ALOT of time. But if you can get a gov job, you're set.
