ok just got my kicker 30 band eq a couple hours ago and installed it ect..

now - the system defently sounds louder and clearer overall (probaly due to the line driver in it - my radio is only 2 volts this goes up to 9) but now my radio at the normal listening volume i used to listen to it at sounds like crap and cuts out... i used a volt meter and set it to the same voltage on the amp... that i used to have it set at (28.2 at volume 25)

i think it might be because my amp is only supposed to take 6 volts tops and this sends 9 - and i have it all the way up tho - i set it like the manual told me

run 0 db 1khz test tone

1) turn radio loudeer than i listen to it

2) turn input gain up until clipping light comes on

3) turn up output gains until the voltage reaches what i need on the amp

but the thing is i set the volume at full and it still didnt reach the voltage i needed (with amp gains turned all the way down) so then i turned the amp gains up to reach that level...

anyone has any input

you think its the eq possibly clipping? when i say its louder - i mean overall the midbass hits like twice as hard

and the only eq adjustments i made were to cut frequencies

ill try lowering the outputs on the eq then

If Im understanding the situation correctly, you've already spelled out your problem. Your amp is receiving more signal than its maximum allowed (over 6v). Even with the gains set to their minimum, this over-voltage possibility makes it still possible to clip your amp even given the minimum gain setting. make sense? So what this means is, you are now limited to how much you can turn your h/u up.... unless you remmove the line driver to adjust it down. Any signal voltage you run above 6volts is not only going to be wasted, but will make for abit of a headache (having to be careful with volume setting).

ok well

i found out i accidently pressed the mono switch and taking that off defently helped a little.. i cut the 25-50 frequencies which also helped.. and i turned the input gain and output gains on the EQ to half way.. and then set my amp gain (which is also about half way)

i still have the problem tho of it sounding a little distorted.. there was always a tool song that would cut out my radio for some reason (thought it was a voltage drop cause it was so heavy on bass) but now amp is cutting out on a lot of songs (when its turned up and during a heavy moment)....

so the problem is a little better but it still seems like the bass coming out of the speakers is a lot louder than before - i never touched the hpf i have on my amp set to 80..

and wouldnt turning down the output gains on the EQ turn down the line driver voltage? (well the line driver is built in the eq)

ill put more time into this tomorrow - its late - cold - and im unsatisfied =( lol
