Ok to trim 4 gauge wire to fit 8 gauge fuse holder

Someone sold me an 8 gauge fuse holder (I thought it was a 4 gauge one) online
I was just wondering if it would be ok if I trimmed the 4 gauge wire down a bit to fit into that or if I should just get the right thing?
prefer getting the correct holder, but be sure there isn't a sleeve in the holder..it could be a 4/8 gauge

How did you not know it wasnt for 4awg? JW i dont mean to sound like an ***
The guy I bought it from said it was for 4 gauge wire. (And I bought it online so I could not see it)

I am just going to buy a new one. Its worth 10 bucks to do it right

I am the one who sold it to him... I had trimmed down 2awg and it fit in there perfectly. It even has a little case to go around it to make sure the wire is tight... But if you want to go out and get a new one go ahead... Or i suggested just drilling out the hole to a bigger whole...

You trimmed down 2 gauge to fit into an 8 gauge fuse holder?

If he sold it to you stating it was for 4 gauge, get him to refund the money. Seems pretty simple to me.

I don't understand why people trim down wire... If you're going to drop the money on heavier gauge power wire, only to skimp on the fuse holder, or ring terminal, or battery post, what's the point? It's not like a 2 gauge fuse holder or 4 gauge fuse holder costs an arm and a leg more than the 8 gauge. By trimming the wire to fit, you're essentially doing the electrical equivalent of taking a giant fire hose, then cutting out a 1 foot section in the middle, and replacing it with a piece of garden hose. The end result is that the water coming out the other end is only going to be as much as the weakest link, that being the garden hose, will allow through. Spend the extra few bucks and do it the right way...
