Ohm questions! (DVC/SVC)

I've been trying to do research on ohms and how DVC and SVC differ. But I seem to not be able to get it down. My amp outputs either 500W@2ohm or 300W@4ohm.

So if i got a DVC 2-ohm sub, would connecting both terminals turn it into a 4-ohm sub? If that is the case, does it still keep its 2-ohm RMS, or would the wattage differ?

If you get a DVC 4-ohm sub, arent your wiring options either 2 or 8 ohms? So would it be possible to hook up a DVC 4-ohm to a 4-ohm amp? or would you have to have a SVC 4-ohm to 4-ohm amp.

Thanks,

A very confused man.

With dual voice-coil subs you can wire them (2) different ways, series and parallel.

When running in series the resistance is added...(2) 4ohm coils wired in series will give you a final load of 8ohms.

The same is true for (2) 2ohm coils...in series they will give you a final load of 4ohms.

To wire coils in series is very easy...just take the + out of the amp and connect it to the + of sub 1, run a wire out of sub1 - to sub 2 +, then run wire out of sub 2 - back to the amp -.

When running coils in parallel things are a bit different...I'll not bug you with the formula but when running (2) 4ohm coils parallel with yield a final load of 2ohms. When running (2) 2ohm coils parallel the final load will be 1ohm.

So 2ohm dvc sub will allow you to run a single 4ohm load (series) or a single 1ohm load (parallel).

A 4ohm dvc sub will allow you to run a single 8ohm load (series) or a single 2ohm load (parallel).
