So, I've been pretty content with my system until now and it seems some changes need to be made. I know all you audiophiles want to know what I have before reading on so here we go
2002 Honda Accord 2dr
Head Unit: STOCK
Front: Sony ES 6.5 component (Blown)//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/verymad.gif.3f39c5c2fd57527b671fad3efdfac756.gif
Rears: Alpine 3-way 6x9s
Amplifier: Kicker KX 700.5
Subwoofers: 2 JLW0 8-ohm speakers wired to 4 ohms
So onto the fun stuff:
I just blew out my old Sony ES component system and am shopping around for a new one. My Kicker KX 700.5 5-channel amp is rated at 40wx4, 200wx1 @ 4 ohms and 75wx4, 400wx1@ 2 ohms. I'd like to extract that extra power at 2 ohms because I don't run my speakers hard and long; usually at low-power 90% of the time, but I like to really kick it sometimes. I've also got 2 JL 12W0s that are running at 100w (4ohm load)each, but if I can get my system wired into 2 ohms I was considering replacing my subs with a 10"W6V2 at 400w.
I've been out of the mobile audio circuit for a few years and the guys at Sound Advice/Tweeters/Best Buy just want to sell me whatever crap they have on hand.
Basically I'd like my setup to look like this:
Head Unit: Alpine CDA-9883
Fronts: (?) 6.5" component (~$300)
Rears: Same old Alpine 6x9s
Amplifier: Same 700.5
Sub: Single 10" in a sealed box.
Most speakers run at 4 ohms and I'm not sure if I want to keep my sub wired at 4 ohm (200w) or at 2 ohm (400w). Also, if I'm running 4 channels to my mids/highs at 4ohm, can I wire my sub for 2 ohm?
I'd really appreciate any recommendations on what kind of power/impedance to run my system as well as a balanced 6.5" component system & 10" sub.
