those are beautiful, 6speed.

i looked at those, as well, but they were a bit outside my budget.

and theCybe, let's wait until i see how the install turns out before you make any arrangements in your datebook //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif i didn't fully realize what i was up against.

for some reason, a picture on the internet, and a ruler, don't really convey the full gravity of trying to fit these things into a car install........ i'm feeling a bit overwhelmed.

speaking of which, iloveslp, the opti4000D is in today, and the thing is a MONSTER!!!! It's WAY bigger than i could have ever imagined, and the thing's gotta weigh about 50lbs!!!!

Opti500x2's still not here, tho. I'm expecting it any day. that's gonna be powering the components.

hey hey hey, a knock-knock-knock on my front door, and it was mr. brown.

2x in one day, always a nice thing //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

and ya, that's spanning the arms of my office chair. The thing is quite large.

ups shipping label says 8lbs., but it feels like it's built like a tank.

can't wait to fire it up.

Welcome to the Opti club .... I'm sure you will be very happy with it. And yes they are built like a tank. 8 lbs? Someone saved money on shipping ...

(ignore the RF amp ... its gone)

Too late, you're already penciled in //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

hey squeak, what did you end up with in your doors?

your old posts about wanting to put 10's in your doors turned the light on in my head that it was possible... and then much to my dismay you said you never got around to it...

what's your setup now?

Right now....just the remnants of my now defunct temporary install //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

Much to my dismay...that install never went down. Sadly sold the equipment about a year or so ago. Such is life.....

what's your setup now?
Memphis Sync 8's in really ugly kickpanels.

Would having 8" woofers with 9mm Xmax in the doors, put you in the Big Midbass Club? //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

I'm not kidding... the 8" woofers in my doors, have 7/8" inch LONG voice coil windings. With a 1/4" thick pole piece, that's 5/8" total overhang, or about 16mm. Divide by two and multiply by 1.15 (which is the standard definition of Xmax as specified by ALMA, the American Loudspeaker Manufacturing Association, calculating from geometry), and you get 9.1mm...

The fun thing? It's a readily-available woofer from a '70s-to-early-'80s Genesis Physics home speaker, that works GREAT in IB in a car door. They made thousands of them... I've got a stash of about 22 extra woofers, that I've gotten and fixed/rebuilt. Don't think I'll be running out of spares anytime soon, even if I build a 9-woofer-per-side home line array speaker out of 18 of them, like I've been casually "planning" for several years...

Amazing how much output they can put out, from 22w/ch (Proton 222) on them... they're flat from 25-400 Hz. No subs, THEY are the ONLY woofers needed!

Regards,

Gordon.

i'm not an authority, but i would consider anything bigger than a 6.75" quite large for a car......

like i said, i've never even heard 8's, 9's or 10's, i just wanted to do something new.

You're not going to know until you test with a meter. Typically even carpeting a box as opposed to painting is going to lose a few tenths.
