**Official Hunting/Fishing Thread**

i've got some vacation i need to use, i think im gonna take a weekend off and go fishing
Nothing is more relaxing to me then a nice day out on the water.

Nice weather (not to hot cause youll boil on the water) a couple of cold beers ... and just sit there with some buddys and shoot the fuckin shit

probably take the g/f and my son out to the lake since our last camping trip didnt work out so well. pouring down rain for 3 days straight and my tent ended up leaking hopefully my vacation gets approved.

Rifle has better power. A shotgun has stopping power, but nothing compared to a rifle. If you shot a deer with a rifle and had to track it down, you arent aiming in the right spot. My dad can drop a running deer with 1 shot with a rifle. And he isnt left handed. He cant see out of his right eye so he had to start shooting left handed this past season. He shot two running deer with his 30-06. 1 shot per deer. Both went right through the neck. Deer never ran. They fell where they were shot
Honestly, please don't repeat any of the above in front of experienced hunters. Believe me, if they have killed any number of deer to speak of they will have tracked a few even though they made good shots. This is the first time that I have heard a father teach his son to aim for the neck. Especially if the deer is on the run. And two at once, is that legal where he was hunting?

IMO, selection of rifle vs. shotgun when hunting whitetail has little to do with "stopping power" and everything to do with range. If you are going to be hunting where, due to cover/brush, terrain, your shot will be within shotgun range that is what I go with. If I am likely to be able to take shots outside of shotgun range, I use a rifle.

You hunt deer with a shotgun too huh. I just got a rifle last year. Shotgun has more stopping power for sure.

Welcome to 60 years ago....

The history of Weatherby began in the mid-1940s when a young cartridge “wildcatter” named Roy Weatherby set out to change the world of firearm performance. Contrary to then-popular thinking (heavy bullets pushed at slow speeds), Roy believed that lightweight bullets traveling at super high speeds provided the best combination for one-shot kills. Based upon that philosophy, he spent the next decade developing the high-powered Weatherby Magnum cartridges for which the company is known today (.224, .240, .257, .270, 7mm, .300, .30-378, .340, .338-378, .375, .378, .416 and .460).

Would you rather get hit by a pickup goin 10 mph or a VW bug doing 60?

Hydrostatic shock FTW....

I think every hunter in the nation knows that Kansas has bigger whitetail than Mississipip.. A 120+ class in Mississippi is hard to come by.. People dont even shoot them that size in Kansas.. Both deer I posted are very respectable deer here.. We take what we can get..

We have a season that starts on october 1 with bow season, and ends January 31.. Our deer get pressured WAYYYYYYYYYYYY more than Kansas deer do.. Our terrain also makes them harder to hunt..I gurantee you if you took a few guys from Mississippi who successfully harvest mature bucks (3.5+ years old) each year, they would demolish the monsters in Kansas.. Dude, you just can't compare the hunting.. Don't even try it..

yes they are, I would be happy with either one of them.

This was my dad's 11 point from last year.

How much did that deer weigh!!! Looks like a cow compared to our deer.. Bucks RARELY weigh over 200 pounds here.. That buck in that pic goes a dam good 250+...

Also, how wide was the buck that u killed?? Dam nice deer..

We never got it weighed, but it was one of the largest bodied deer our party has shot. I wanna say it was 16 inches wide but I can't really remember.

Story time -

Tonight one of my buddies shot a deer with his bow so we went to track it a few hours ago. It had a nice thick blood trail and when we got to it we found out it was a double spike. Each antler was split right at the base and it had a 5th point that was 1/2 inch away from being counted as a point.

Picture of the farm. Great hunting. Also, here's a pic of Grandad's famous 14 point.

I have'nt hunted in about 5 years. Shot a nice 10 point about 8 years back, which was my crowning achievement. I'll see if I can dig up some other photos. I personally hunt with a Winchester 270. Shoots at **** near 4500 fps, dead accurate, drops'em quick. I quit using my 308. I got tired of hitting branches and having the bullet blow up.
