thanks johnecon2001 and excelerater. why is it that the rating of the fuse is dependant upon what gauge wiring you use?

*speaking of the positive alternator to positive battery of course*

because from my understanding, for my stereo equipment, i was told my fuse amps should be dependant on the fuse(s) of my amps are .//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/confused.gif.e820e0216602db4765798ac39d28caa9.gif

you were told wrong then... 4 gauge 120-150A 0 gauge 250-300A

Also I didnt see this mentioned, I may have missed it though. I noticed you replaced the wires and didnt add on. Leaving the stock wiring in place just helps improve the circuit.

what do i do with the current alt to battery wire then? (the stock one). Ive looked around, and the alt wire doesnt go straight to the battery. Instead i lose track of it. John if i remember correctly you said you worked on a Integra LS before correct? Where does the wire go?

probably goes to the starter, just leave it in place and run a new one from the alt + to the batt +

yep, there's no reason to remove the stock wire. the electricity will choose the path with the LEAST resisitance by default(the 0/1 guage wire, or whichever you choose).

removing the stock wire is just a headache in alot of cases and unnecessary, as well as it causes potential for screw-ups.

oh, thx for the replies //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

after lookin closer at the setup pics, that is an Integra i highly believe so. Where did you ground the engine point at? I cant tell where that is. Can you put up a pic as well of where you connected the alternator at?

I believe that on almost all cars you can use where your alt bolts into your engine, if that's hard to get at then...i dunno.

when im crimping my 0awg wires however, i just ply the ring terminals open a bit with some regular needle nose pliers (or whatever is handy) and put the wire in, and crimp it down with some nice big adjustable pliers. then set it on the pavement and have at it with a hammer. maybe a bit of solder on the end to give it that extra bit of rigidity //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif
Ahh yes, the good old hammer strategy.

ok i jsut installed my ghetto budget system in my car to get my bass withdrawls taken care of, and my dash lights and headlights dim when they hit, so i figured i'd try to solve it by doing the big 3

do i need to use 1/0 gauge? whats the lowest gauge i could use? my stock wires are 4 gauge, so i was thinking trying to find 2 gauge somewhere and using that, the 1/0 looks very very beefy, but its a lil out of the budget, also would i be better off going to a car audio shop to get the wiring instead of a place like fry's electronics (the costco of electronics)

you can get 1/0 for $1.25 a foot at http://www.weldingsupply.com

yeah a welding shop will carry it. Around here it seems to be around 1.50-1.80 a foot for 1/0. WS.com seems to be cheaper but youve gotta add on shipping.
yeah i'd rather be able to go to a storefront and get it, so i can do it this weekend

i'm also gonna upgrade my battery clamps any suggestions on brands?

my stock wiring is 4ga so i would need a clamp with 1/0ga and 4ga output for the neg, and 1/0ga, 4ga, and i believe an 8ga for the pos

It's actually a 98 civic EX. but should be pretty similar to the teg. The alternator wire is burried in the fuse box so I just ran a new one.

To Moe. The old wires were pretty ocrroded so I just removed them. Adding on is better, but I wanted a cleaner look.
