I'm stumped and can't even begin to imagine what to type to search for this, but I'm looking for some help.
My buddy and I installed a new RE Audio SE 12" with a custom box with his old 4 channel amp about 2 months ago. Hooked it up, and it sounded great. He wanted a newer, little more qualified amplifier to push a little more oompf out of the sub. He also has an aftermarket low end headunit.
I recommended the Hifonics BXi608 which we could wire down to 1 Ohm which would give him 600 watts. Fit the budget well, and just about the right amount of power for the SE. I also recommended he upgrade all of his crappy 8 gauge cheap wiring he had. I set him up with a nice 4 gauge kit from Knukoncetpz.
Well, he rewired and installed the new amp on his own. I assume he did everything correctly, as there isn't much to mess up and he had to remove first and saw where everything came from. Possible something is wrong because of this.
Here's the problem:
There is almost no signal coming from the amp at all at low gain settings. Slowly turning up the gain does next to nothing, and then at about 3/4ths BOOOMM, Loud deep bass note that doesn't stop until I turn down the gain. Checked all the wiring, other settings, everything and nothing changed. I was like hell, never heard of this in my life, send the amp in. So, we just got the new amp in today and same problem still exists. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/confused.gif.e820e0216602db4765798ac39d28caa9.gif
Here are my guesses:
1. Something is bad with the new wiring. RCAs, or ground maybe.
2. Amp is NOT going to 1 ohm like it's supposed to.
Don't have a whole lot of experience with troubleshooting, so can use a hand with figuring out what is up. Seems really weird to me, but please let me know if you have any ideas. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif
****PROBLEM SOLVED****
- RCAs were bad. Thanks for the help vic! //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif
