Drop Bass Not Bombs
Initially I plan to launch some Class-D amps :
OA-1 : 1200 RMS @ 1 ohm
OA-2 : 1800 RMS @ 1 ohm
OA-3 : 2400 RMS @ 1 ohm
They are all under-rated amplifiers by a good margin. The ratings are to be used to mate with the appropriate Obsidian woofers for daily applications.
What I have decided to do after much debate is to stick to extremely proven board designs for these three models; initially I was planning otherwise but decided this route would be best -- of course with some modifications and tweaks. All three models feature more robust than normal power supply MOSFETs.
All of these amps will cut off around 16.0 volts -- they are not made for a 16v electrical system at all. For this you will need to look to Sundown or other brands that support this operation. They are in turn optimized for more power on a 12v system.
Once samples arrive testing and board photographs will follow along with predicted pricing.
They will not be the cheapest amps on the market but they will be a good value, IMO, and they will be backed by known excellent customer service and warranty practices.
I am considering offering extended warranty plans as well for those that value a warranty -- those that do not would not have to pay extra for it. Base warranty will be 1 year and can be extended from there.
8/31/2011 UPDATE:
Various testing collected together :
OA-1 : Rated 1200 @ 1 ohm / 600 @ 2 ohms / 300 @ 4 ohms @ 11v
1 ohm --> 1440 watts @ 13.3v @ 1.91 ohms actual
0.5 ohm --> 1960 watts @ 12.65v @ 1.38 ohms actual
0.5 ohm --> 2130 watts @ 12.2v @ 1.17 ohms actual
0.33 ohm --> 2230 watts @ 14.2v @ 1.11 ohms actual
OA-2: Rated 1800 @ 1 ohm / 900 @ 2 ohms / 450 @ 4 ohms @ 11v
1 ohm --> 2340 watts @ 12.8v @ 1.98 ohms actual
0.5 ohm --> 2640 watts @ 11.7v @ 1.16 ohms actual
0.5 ohm --> 2820 watts @ 12.8v @ 0.9 ohms actual
0.5 ohm --> 2892 watts @ 14.4v @ 1.53 ohms actual
OA-3 : Rated 2400 @ 1 ohm / 1200 @ 2 ohms / 600 @ 4 ohms @ 11v
1 ohm --> 2860 watts @ 12.35v @ 2.01 ohms actual
0.5 ohm --> 3250 watts @ 11.5v @ 1.28 ohms actual
0.5 ohms --> 3460 watts @ 11.6v @ 0.86 ohms actual
0.33 ohm --> 3810 watts @ 13.6v @ 0.85 ohms actual
All amps will be upgraded from IRFP064N power supply FETs to IRF1405 power supply FETs for production... the OA-1 and OA-2 will receive a few % tolerance tweaking in the protect circuit for a tad more power output at lower loads and the OA-1 will lose the internal fusing so there won't be concern for blowing the fuses on burps.
All pricing will include a 1-year warranty on the amps for 1 ohm operation on the Class-D models and rated 2 ohm stereo / 4 ohm mono on the multi-channels. We will offer discounted replacements for out-of-warranty operation parameters such as 0.5 ohm and so forth; so you simply are not up the creek in these situation.
OA-1 : $350 + SH
OA-2 : $425 + SH
OA-3 : $675 + SH
This is USA pricing and also for countries without a distributor. We expect to have them distributed in a few other countries upon launch and pricing will be set in those countries by the distributor based on their costs to import, etc.
I will be working on pricing for extended warranty options as well for those that desire longer coverage.
Pre-order pricing will be introduced when pre-ordering is ready to open; it will of course be less than the regular price listed above. 2-channel and 4-channel pricing will be announced later on as well. At this time the ETA is not set in stone on the amps -- we WILL announce it when there is information on that.
