He wants the .gov to cut $100 million from the departments' budgets in the next 90 days. Seems like a good idea.

Anyone want to figure out how many 90 day periods it will take to make up for the $1 trillion he spent?

It's like making $100,000 per year, financing a $10 million dollar house, then giving up chewing gum to pay for it.

I was trying to think of a good analogy for this but I was coming up blank. You nailed it.

The analogy would work if the government came out and said "here is how we are going to pay for the money we spent this year." I would assume this is just one of many ways our government are cutting back, which is pretty natural in the middle point of a recession.

I think you may be missing the point. I am all for cutting as much as can be cut in the gov. But spending trillions of dollars, then thinking that cutting $100 million is going to have any effect at all is pretty laughable.

Then instead of saying "to pay for it" substitute "as a belt tightening measure" ... giving up chewing gum.... Still works, unless you think Obama walks on water, then he can do anything and you won't care.//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/laugh.gif.48439b2acf2cfca21620f01e7f77d1e4.gif

How did I miss the point?

"President Barack Obama on Monday ordered his Cabinet to find ways to slice spending by $100 million, but acknowledged it's a 'drop in the bucket' "

http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20090420/ap_on_go_pr_wh/obama

A drop in the bucket. How many drops of water in a bucket? How many drops of $100 million to fill the deficit bucket? The article goes on to explain how little of money it is, and the president points it out as well. They aren't trying to say this is a driving force in fixing the deficit, just one of many things that need to happen now and continue to happen in the years to come.

Digging yourself out of a 20 ton shit pile with a spork will eventually get you there, using a tool a bit larger than a spork might be prudent though.

Also not a good idea not to call in another 20 tons of shit to be dumped on the existing pile..while using a spork to dig out...

Obama is trying to make everyone equal, spending way too much money and the taxing is ridiculous, his policies are garbage and so is he. Wonder why we had all those "tea parties" the other day. This country is going to go into turmoil and there will be rebellion unless he makes wiser decisions. He worries about the wrong things and after investing all this money, the DOW is only up about 150 points since his inauguration. He is just pissing money away.
