update:

after running the gain close to 3/4 way up, i havent encountered any overheating or clipping. i can definately feel more power from this amp compared to my bx1000d. i will try to get bench testing as soon as i have time

I also run mine at 3/4 =) Or a little less actually

Yeh, man your right. My bxi1606 did the same thing. Coudn't hear much until i turned the gain at 3/4 up. It sucks because i thought it was just my HU with 2v, but i had a previous HU (4v) and it did the same sh!t. And those amps get real hot even with proper ventilation. Try running that amp for a good 15-20 minutes on moderate level, touch the amp and see what happens... I upgraded to a XX-Hercules and heard a difference quite easily. But at the same time, the XX is 2000rms, while the bxi1606 does 1600. Plus i wired my XX to .5ohms. Even if the amp gets hot at 1ohm, they still run at .5 all day long a well. If your on a strict budget, then go with the BXi lines. If you can wait 3-4 weeks for more money, go with the XX-lines.

because you haven't "experienced" clipping doesn't mean it's not happening.

I set my gains with an o-scope, and even with -3dB tones, ~50% is where i ended up

my preouts are rated 5.0v, but they're usually all the same, anyways
