I haven't heard of the Amero but have agreed with similar proposals....mainly as a competitve tool with the EU vs. the depreciation of the dollar.
I do not see it flying. The govts are too different....
Plus Canada and Mexico use an entirely different brand of monetary policy. We tend to follow the Taylor Rule with constrained discretion. Mexico and Canada are more explicit inflation targers. Thus, we have slighly different approaches to achieving economic goals. I can post some very good papers concerning these approaches to monetary policy if interested. The EU had shared goals and the economic zones began in Europe a couple decades before the Euro.
