? normal resting voltage on optima yellow?

hey all.

I have a optima yellow top.

and I believe its going bad on me.

it measures about 12.3 or 12.4 at resting voltage on my dmm.

I try and charge it up more - but it starts venting from those little holes.

so I take it off charger - as to not damage it more I guess.

is 12.3 - or 12.4 a crappy resting voltag for an optima yellowtop

thats under a year old ?

I have the # to contact the optima rep around my way,

maby he can replace it if its going bad.

but I want to know what yall's batts are resting at - to compair how crappy

mine is to a "good one"

so far - im totaly not impressed by optima.

why do you think this is a problem???? At what voltage exactly do you expect a 12v battery to rest at??

um thats a good battery many batterys rest at 11.8 to 12.1 thats a good resting voltage also the weather changes the voltage as well.

you are over charging or charging at too high of an amperage setting if it is venting,

a typical lead acid battery that shows exactly 12 volts is less than a 50% state of charge, 12.66 volts is 100% charge FYI

alright - thanks guys.

I have a battery charger from sears. use it on 10 amp setting.

maby I should try the 2 amp setting out, and see how it does.

I was un aware that regular liquid acid filled batterys and sealed units have

diffrent resting voltages. I was some how led to thinking that a battery resting at

12.75 is in full charge - but batterys resting less than 12.5 are in need of charge

or are old and worn out a bit. so I figured 12.3 is pretty crappy for a "good"

battery like a optima yellow top.

ive also heard that battery like kenetik are suposed to have resting voltage of 13+ ?
