Hi everyone, first off thanks for all the info on this forum its really helped quite a bit. il get straight to the point.

I recently had the Pioneer TS-W307D2/D4 (please not ive put d2 or d4 as I am not sure which one is installed). I then decided to purchase another Pioneer TS-W307D2 (this is supposed to have a rating of 2 ohm x 2).

The current amp is a Sony Xplode Class D 1400 Max Power

Please note the manual for the sub is located here:

So my two questions are firstly:

i) Is this amp powerfull enough to push two 12 inch subs rated at 1200w each (I am guessing not but I could be wrong)

ii)What would be the best way to wire the two subs with the current amp and please note 2ohm and 4 ohm confuse the hell out of me so I am very lost.

If the amp is not powerful enough could you guys recommend something reasonable but not overpriced as I am now kind of on a budget.

I hope ive given as much detail as I can to get your guys input on my situation, look forward to hearing from you.

Thanks

if both subs are dvc 2's the amp should work fine if you wire the subs for 2 ohms.

if the sub you're not sure about is a dvc4 there's not really a good way to get them to work together.

the amp puts out 600w. each sub is 600w. so with 2 subs to that amp, each sub will get 300w. so they wont be greatly loud. but it will work.

go get a digital multi meter. set it to "ohm" and put the leads on the speaker terminals. itll say 2 or 4 ohms. unplug the speaker 1st.

you need an amp thatll do 1000-1200w RMS (not max!!!) at 2ohms if you want to make those subs shine.

Thanks for that info skittlesRgood could you possible recommend an reasonably priced amp somwhere in the region of US$300? I know I am probably asking for much but the pound at the moment is not in our favour ;-)

n2audio would you say its probably best I froze my order till I find out what Sub it is? I will probably have to ring the guys that installed it on Monday. Failing that will the combination work or will I be lacking in sound.

Once again thanks to everyone for your input greatly appreciated.

The subs are 400w rms, so if you were to add the a 2nd dvc 2 each sub would get 300w rms. It's not ideal, but even if you got a bigger amp, another 100w would only make slight audible difference.

If the 2nd sub is a dvc 4 your only wiring option will net 2.67 ohms and the amp will give you around 500 which isn't so bad. The problem is one sub will be 8 ohms and the other will be 4 ohms meaning one sub gets about 330w and the other gets about 170.

The JBL is a VERY nice amp, but it's close to 2x the power you need.

Hi n2audio ok call me blond today but are you saying that its two powerfull? I would greatly appreciate if you could link me to something that will be able to power those two subs. Thanks again.

if the subs are 400 watts rms each you need an amp that will produce in the neighborhood of 800 watts rms. i'd suggest an amp from 700-900 rms would work good. there again be sure to look at rms and not max or peak output.

Thanks for that, so I scowered and will continue but just to make sure I am on the right track..

And final question, and I know its all about taste but is two subs overkill? I want the bass to be deep but not rattling, hard to explain but more so trying to go for clarity. Hope that makes sense.
