Noob looking for some knowledge

Hey guys this is my first post, and I am hoping to stick around for a long time. I am currently working on 92 f-150 and now that the exterior is complete it is time to move to the sound system. I am music junkie and I want to install I decent system in the truck; however, I know little to nothing about what makes a system sound better than others. This is where you guys come in. I need a new head unit, four door speakers, and I was possibly lookin into a small 10" sub. If it makes much of a difference I will be listening to country music 90% of the time and a little rock every now and then. Thanks so much. I would also like to keep it at about $400-600.

P.s I am not looking for you guys to tell me what to get I really want to know what to look for and why one speaker or head unit or brand is better than another.

Single cab. So any subs will have to be shallow mount.
