noob help wiring splw-15

Hey. I am doing my first install, and picked up a splw-15 sub cheap. It says it has dual 1-ohm voicecoils. I am trying to find how to wire it, but am having trouble. I am looking to buy an amp, and am looking at a HIFONICS BX1500 or a PA A1800DB. Would either of these be a good choice, and how do I wire it to keep it at 1 ohm. Sorry if this was stupid.

How you wire it will depend on the amp rating.

The sub has 2 vc's @ 1 ohm. Wiring it in parallel will give you a load of 0.5 ohm. Wiring in series will give you a load of 2 ohms. Or you could feed a seperate channel to each vc and keep the 1 ohm rating for each vc.

You will want to wire it so that your amp is stable. Check the specs on both those amps.

Sorry if this was stupid.
we need to add this phrase to the bingo card.

Seriously man, theres no such thing as a stupid question. We're all here to learn, and if you don't know the answer, how can you be stupid by wanting to learn more??? I'll bet even squeak didn't even know what an ohm was at a certain point...

unfortunately the sub can only be wired to a .5 or 2 ohm load. Looking for an amp that will push close to the rated RMS of the sub at 2 ohms would be your best bet. I don't think the Hifonics or Rockford can run at .5

Instead get either (2) of the A1800db's or (2) of the A1000DB's and strap the amps together. THen you will have yourself a single 2 ohm stable signal. So wire your coils in series and you will be good to go.

X2!! as long as you can strap an amp together!!

Hey. Thanks for the replys. I was looking at these amps because they were somewhat cheap. The rms on the sub is 1400watt and the bx1500 says it makes 1100 at 2ohm. Would this be enough to power it. Thanks!
