No midbass from HEX's... need help with setup

Basically what I am looking to figure out is what happened to the midbass and what is the best way to fix it? DSP, stronger amp, different components, better install - what?

HEXes are '04/'05 models, apparently when quality started going down the tubes. Install was professionally done, but no extra deadening material was added. HEXes are putting out less midbass than my Laredo's stock premium Infinity sound system, which is sad. I bought them, because they were supposed to rock in the midrange. On a heavy song (i.e. anything by Tool or Metallica), airflow from the comps barely makes a whisper. Anything light and the air doesn't vibrate at all.

Grand Cherokee has tight clearance for comps, something like 2.5", max 2 3/4" or less. Diamonds were also a good choice because of the relatively shallow mounting depth and even then the installer said he had to use an adapter.

They don't seem to be moving alot or making much sound. Tweeter volume is disproportionately louder than the comps, even with the tweeters set to -2db on the crossovers and the comps +2db.

Could also try sealing up/deadening the door, but I agree that something might be wrong in the wiring if it's less than the stockers were....

HEX's have no midbass,thats thier downfall when they went chinese VS when they were built in germany..........actually they have poor tweets today as well

If I were you id dump em and move into something thats better in SQ

You won't get much more than midrange out of the new cheap HEX's....not much better than Pyle nowdays...

Wiring should be correct... I have looked at the crossovers and there is really nothing else that could be wrong there. They are putting out sound, just not much.

So I have heard about quality... I was hoping maybe a DSP could bring out the midrange or maybe stronger amp. The silk tweeters still sound very nice.

So what would you guys recommend for a good midbass speaker with relatively shallow mounting depth?

As for the midbass...yes the HEXs lack severly, but shouldnt be as bad as you described. Have you tried adjusting phase?
