next best thing to kick panels/pods

while kick panels/pods provide superior imaging, building them can be a pain in the *** (especially when you try to get them to look like stock parts) They also are subject to kicking upon entry and exit (espcially from unconsiderate passengers)

I had no intentions of chopping up the doors of my Corvette to build kick panels that i would no doubt kick. so here's the next best thing:

the original design called for a layering of MDF (3 layers of 3/4") that would angle the woofer to match the tweeters firing axis at rougly 30degrees. I measured a 2.5" clearence between grille and the stock speaker mounted.

unfortionatly, the 3/4" MDF main mounting plate was too thick and i didn't account for the curvature for the bottom of the door panel. quick replication of the mounting panel with 1/4" MDF solved the problem.

I also remounted the tweeter lower to make it fire out the grille, in the original design it would have been firing into the door panel becauuse it was mounted too high.

since their design i also built speaker enclosures that mounted to the rear to give me tighter bass. (more pics to come)
