Newb's first box! (w/ pics!)

What kind of wood did you use and why ? any specific reason ?
My sheet of 3/4 MDF.
MDF is commonly-used...it's locally available everywhere, relatively strong and cheap (although those **** Chinese exports have been raising prices, along with all construction materials), also easy to work and finish, although it makes a ton of dust.

yeah, that and fiberglass are *****es to clean up...

i remember the first glassing job i helped with, restoring a hull on a friend's boat...i was itching for weeks after that //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/frown.gif.a3531fa0534503350665a1e957861287.gif

Besides the answers above, here is some more info:

MDF sheets, 3/4 x 96 x 46 will probably run you about 20-25 dollars. These sheets are HUGE and HEAVY!!! Be very careful with them and get a buddy or two to help you with moving it around. I did it by myself and sliced my hands up in several places because the factory edges were so **** sharp.

And finally, the technical reason MDF is used: "Self damping"

And pat, I had my share of goof ups and errors... the one thing I did very differently from the average boxbuilder was cut the wood with a skil-saw, not a jig saw.

They run about $17 over here //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/moon.gif.9d317aec3339ffe7fde0638df52c628a.gif
