Newbie with $800 budget, advice wanted

I have never bought a car audio system before, and I have decided that since I now have a job that can afford a system I want one. I am considering getting two 6 1/2's for the front and two 6X9's for the back with a sub (probably 10" or two 10"s) and an amp, and all the required kits and wires etc. I would be able to build/have my friend build a box for the sub/s so I wouldn't need to buy that. The CD deck I am considering is an alpine 45Wx4 CDE-9852, and that would be in the $800 budget. I am not looking to get anything to fancy, just something decent. Any input is greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Do you have any reservations on buying pre-owned equipment from a reputable source? If you wouldn't mind going that route it could potentially stretch that $800 budget considerably over buying new //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/fyi.gif.9f1f679348da7204ce960cfc74bca8e0.gif

In response to the different questions in order:

I would rather buy new, but would be open to pre-owned from a reputable source.

I would be looking for sound quality over super loud bass

It is going into a '01 Mazda Protege and I listen to most kinds of music except country, but I mostly listen to rock, alternative, and rap.

And thanks for the quick replies //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

save your money and dont bother with the 6x9's just have a front stage no need for Music to becoming from behind you. You want it come from infront of you like, like as if you were at a concert

get a single 15" sub (maybe a soundsplinter rlp), has more core area than 2 10s and cost less than 2 10s, i would also recommend getting some cdt classic 6.5s for alteraudio they are only 100shipped and give them about 100wrms

Welome to the forum. If you are looking for sound quality, I would start off with a good head unit and work your way out from there. Front stage would be my next step and so on... All in all I would take my time and do my homework. Since your are on kind of a tight budet, People on here can be very helpful, so check out their recommendations . Hopefully you on our way to the wonderful world of sq car audio. Good luck! //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif
