newbie question

i read the fiberglass how tos and the differnece between ported and sealed but im not quite sure i understand correctly

so right now i have a 12 jl w1 in a ported truck box and SOMETIMES i listen to rap but i mainly listen to rock.

the box takes up way too much space so i want to make a custom fiberglass box for the side of my trunk. what im confused about is the port. im not really sure what the difference will be and weather it would be worth it to just make a wooden frame for a port and port it or just leave it sealed?

what should i do?

You can leave it sealed and add polyfil to the box when your done. So make the fiberglass enclosure 1.25 cubes or so and add polyfil. I think the ratio is 1lb for .25cubes. You can add and subtract according to how you want it to sound. As far as rock, most rock will come from the speakers anyways. get some really nice speakers that can get low so you can blend the sound stage better. then you can fine tune the sub. Most sealed application require more power than ported applications.
