first and foremost, i am less than a newbie. But i am going to be starting a new hobby as

my old one is tiring, and i love music. So i picked out some things to go on my car. and then read that i may be going the wrong direction.

here is a list of what i plan on ordering. i need to know if they will be compatible, i'm just a beginner and dont want to spend 1000's yet. i'll upgrade as needed as i get more knowledgeable.

thx in advance

How much is all that stuff? I'm pretty sure you're going to be told not to buy Pioneer. Except for maybe the head unit and components. IDK. For what you're spending I'm sure you can get some nicer, albeit not as well known, equipment. There's a couple things that need to be known.

What is it you're going for? SQ or SPL?

What kind of car or truck is it?

Budget?

I don't even Know what SQ or SPL is, and the car is a 2004 chevrolet malibu. my budget is 600-700. maybe more. as it is a projcet and will not be done all at once. all of that stuff totals right around 600. What are some brands i should be looking ofr.

SQ is sound quality and SPL is sound pressure level (means loud) pretty much. With your budget I think you could ask around and maybe hit up the classifieds. There's a lot of subs and amplifiers in your price range that are going to do a better job for you than the Pioneer stuff. I don't hate on Pioneer or JL or any of the main stream brands. Just seems they just spend a lot of money on advertising and not a lot on their products. Sound Solutions Audio - Quality Car Audio Subwoofers is a good place to start. Look at the Dcon's. They're about a 114 a piece for 10's and they're waaaaay nicer than the Pioneers you've got listed. All of the nicer brands have entry level stuff that you can afford. You'll be a lot happier.

ok thanks alot guys. i am looking for SOUND QUALITY. i want it to be ni loud and the bass to be. but i want it to be nice n clear as well. i will keep ypu all updated on my purchases and pics on how it comes along. do you thinktow 10"s will be enough or should i go 12"s?

Ok So for about 600 I'm Trying to spend on the HU, AMP, Subwoofers and components. What brands should i be looking for. and do you think i will break my budget by much. i understand whta you are saying about pioneer. its the same in any industry i would go with quality over a name. as long as the price is outrageous.

For amps ide looking into MB quarts or DB drive, MB quarts is on most sites, ide check ebay for DB drive.

For subs, DCONS are hard to beat. U may wanna lookin into the new FI X's though, as FI is serious quality too lol https://ssl.perfora.net/www.ficaraudio.com/sess/utn;jsessionid=154eff555d95257/shopdata/0050_Speakers/0045_X/product_overview.shopscript

^^ also maybe the sundown SD series

For comp doors idea say MB quarts or Boston if you want new. Or watch out classifieds as great deals come threw there.

As far as HU goes, i wouldnt buy anything but Alpine, Eclipse, or JVC

And as said above, on 2 10's or 12 of that caliber and a highs amp u dont need any electrical upgrades.

Ide say go MB quarts for you mono sub amp, and DB drive for the highs. But DB drive does have a good mono for cheap A5 800.1

LINKS!!!!

This amp is tiny and does rated. I own a A5 line amp, very solid. http://www.amazon.com/DRIVE-A5800-1D-Okur-Class-Amplifier/dp/B003820Z8Y/ref=sr_1_12?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1326323150&sr=1-12

lol and heres my high amp, like it better then my memphis(very pricy, quality brand) http://www.amazon.com/DRIVE-A590-4-4-Channel-Class-Amplifier/dp/B003829Q1Q/ref=sr_1_20?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1326323219&sr=1-20

^^^Thoughs are prob some of the SMALLEST footprints ure going to find. Plus they do rated and not to expensive. If i re-did my system on ure budget ide go with these //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

Check into Massive Audio for comps. There's a dealer on here with new sets for a really good price. I like the MB Quarts amp mentioned above and the DCONS, not so much on the Crunch. HU's just depend on what you are looking for. I'd go for one with at least 4v outputs, none that are 2v. And a decent EQ built in.

Okay so here is my new revised list, with a few questions i had.

Head Unit: JVC KDHDR40 Car Audio Stereo

Comp Speakers: I went looking for the 6 x 4 from MB Quart, but i could only find 6 x 9 and i need two 6 x9, and two 6 x 4.

So i may go for MBquart on the 6 x9 and Boston acoustic on the 6 x 4.

Amps:DB DRIVE A5800.1D Okur A5 Series Class D Mono Amplifier, DB DRIVE A590.4 Okur A5 Series 4-Channel Class AB Amplifier

SubWoofers:DCON-12 S4 – Sound Solutions Audio 12" 300W Single 4-Ohm DCON Series Subwoofer

Okay well really i only had 1 question. I need to know what kind of box i need to get. Sealed Ported, tubed or whatever. I listen to mostly hip hop music if that helps any. southern rap if that helps more. or does it even matter.

i also want your opinions on my revised list as far as a beginner goes?

what does it mwean for an amp to be "rated".

Yikes. Avoid oval speakers, and those speakers also handle too little power for the amp. It could be done if you are careful with the gains, but you're new - and nothing wrong with that - but you are too liable to blow them by setting things up wrong since you are new to this. If you get slightly beefier speakers, it will help you by being a bit tougher to blow in case you turn that gain knob up a little too far. You don't necessarily need to spend $200 on a pair of speakers but bump it up a little. And fit some 6.5"s in there. 6.5"s are almost always very easy to fit in the place of 6x9"s with an adapter, and they will have better sound quality and selection. You can get brackets that will allow you to place a 6.5" woofer and a tweeter next to each other so you can easily use a 6.5" component set if you wish to do that but don't have a place to put the tweeter. Then you could spend maybe $100 for a decent component set. Or at least just fit some 6.5" coaxials in there with an even simpler bracket...

D-Con would be a good starter sub... or Dayton from Parts Express: the #1 source for audio, video & speaker building components. While you've probably never heard of Dayton, they are actually really well known in DIY circles and they are a great brand at a great price.

The Pioneer head unit is fine, but let me warn you about Pioneer head units: Never ever EVER do anything with the RCAs with the power to the head unit still on (whether the car is running or not). EVER. You will blow the pico fuse in the head unit which will cause your pre-outs to develop tons of noise. Beware!

The Pioneer amp is fine. Basic, but fine.

You may be a beginner but don't skimp too much on your system. What good is it if you buy stuff so cheap that you're dissatisfied and just end up spending more money to replace it with the stuff you really wanted in the first place? Get stuff that will at least reasonably satisfy you the first time.
