New to systems, could use advice as to where to start first

I drive a '99 Crown Victoria LX with an old (two, three years) Pioneer headunit. I know the general terms and stuff, but I don't know much else. Also, I'm a college kid, and I'm looking to stay on the fairly cheap side. Could anybody give me some advice as to what's good and where to start?

go browse crutchfeild.com for some subs they usually have pretty good deals on some stuff. as to what you should get do you want 2 subs if so then match up wiring plan and the subs rms's to the amp that would power them the best without being overkill/expensive .(500 rms @ 4 ohm into 2 300 watt rms subs wired to have 4 ohms would be a pretty good bet) and just buy a decent box from a pawn shop for (80$/or make it yourself) it would prob cost ~ $400-500, mostly depending on which amp you buy and if you find good deals or not. would not recommend pawn shops. online is better and cheaper than local sellers usualy.

This is a bad idea.

Crutchfield is horribly priced relative to other manners of getting a system.

First off, the best bet is to just read around. Second off, what are your goals? Are you looking to get loud, sound good, what kind of music do you listen to? What is a budget plan?

Alpine Type R's are a good entry level subwoofer, fairly common though. DC Level 3's are good. Fi SSD's. Audioque SDC2.5's. Amplifier, Audioque 1200D, Hifonics 1210D, etc. Lots of options.
