Time for you to do some reading.

But here are the first steps. What do you want out of your system? Are you looking for good sound quality, or just crazy loud bass that you don't care how it sounds? Or are you looking for a combination of both?

Also, how much are you looking to spend on a new system? What do you mean by tricked out? Basically speakers play music, other than that they don't do a whole lot. So I am not sure what you are looking to do with them.

Once you can answer those basic questions I think people will better be able to help you out.

maybe he even wants 1/0 but 4 is a good place to start if you are going to be getting some amps that actually draw power. It depends on your musical taste and what you want your system to do. personally my system is setup different than most other peoples...there are lots of different ideas on what sounds "good"...

The explorer is a good start for an SPL vehicle...and ive heard mixed reviews about it as an SQ vehicle. do alot of research here and around the web and see what other people in explorers are running for equpiment. but like everyone else has said ditch the 8 gauge and get some 4 gauge. if you tell us what you want out of it we can be of some more help.

Yeah remember its better to by a system once than to keep buying crappy systems .

My rule of thumb is "Dont spend a dime till your ALARM is installed"

You will be to tempted to stick it all in and test it out . Then you'll be to lazy to pull it out that night . An you'll be buying yourself a new system

yeh dont buy one.....

they are a band-aid for a weak electrical system. figure out what you want, get it, and if your lights dim / flicker think about a new battery / alt.

also you dont necessarily have to read forever. State a budget you are willing to spend, what kind of music you listen too, what kind of sound you are going for, and since you have an explorer i'm assuming you have enough room to not worry.

welcome to the boards by the way.
