New to car audio, assistance appreciated!

So I recently purchased an used 2001 Civic coupe and I would like a stereo system, a couple of subs and replace the other stock speakers. It already has an after market CD player and I noticed wiring in the trunk that look like the previous owner had subs. I've never dealt with car audio before and I don't know the extent of what the previous owner has done. Should I go to a major store i.e. Best Buy or Circuit City to get a system installed there or the local car audio shop or possibly buy and install the parts myself? If recommending the latter my budget is about 1200 for parts and linking them and why you recommended the item would be most excellent! Thanks for replying

do yourself a favor...cowboy up..and learn how to use your hands... consider yourself better than most installers at bestbuy/circuitcity...

for one obvious reason, you give a shit about how this will come out...

Purchase your stuff online, don't be afraid to move away from mainstream, eg; whatever is sold at your bestbuy...

many great companies out there take from other's experience and build your own...

well i worked at best buy...and i mean the installs are decent i think better then circuit city...but i would do it urself....it feels alot better to know u did it ur self at the end...and ur saving a hell of alot more money for ur system it self....ur install for a pair of interiors is 41.99 alone...so thats over 80 just for ur interiors if u run 4...the sub and amp is over 150 just to hook up....i would do it all urself...and 1200 isnt bad...u could prolly find something decent on here or ebay
