New system wont go loud

im not sure id trust that clipping light? turn the hu down to zero, turn the amp gain up 40% (ignore the clipping light) and see what it SOUNDS like, if its distorted all to chit turn the gain on the amp down till the distortion leaves.

imo the clipping light might be a 'gimmik'

trust your ears.if it isnt distorted your good.

aslo check your speakers are in 'phase' set balance to 1 side and listen to the bass, when you add the other side bass should increase, if it decreases your speakers are out of 'phase' and you need to reverse the wires on 1 of them.

Well actually I think I found the problem. I was told by someone on another forum that maybe there was a poor ground connection. So I disconnected the ground and sanded the entire area down with a belt sander. I then drilled another hole and grounded the amp. I then started up the car and tried to set the gain again. This time I was able to keep moving the gain until the speakers were so loud it as irritating. The clip meter didn't even come on this time but i did start to smell a strange odor which I believe were the speakers. Was it possible I was sending to much power to them? Or is it because they are new and aren't broken in yet?
