New System, Looing for help/advise

Well after 4 years of not having a system I am getting back in the game. This is the smallest system I have ever had(except a straight stock system) so I wanted to ask a few questions since I have been away for awhile. I am working with very little space so I purchased shallow mount 300watt RMS 1200watt max sub and custom box. I also purchased a larger amp in anticipation of adding another sub later. My biggest question is, If my sub is 300-1200 watts and the way I will be setting up my amp it will be running 800watts rms. Is this going to be an issue? Am I going to blow this sub? I was used to having 15's and old school US Amps.

Adjust your gains lower for around 400 rms

Is there a way to test my output while setting the gain to know what is actually coming out of the amp? I thought a gain was merrily to adjust the level to match that of the headunit?

It is. But you can also adjust the voltage coming out of the amp with the gain There's a sticky I think on the forum for a how to adjust the gains
