Hi everyone,
Im new to this site and to car audio. I am 17 and drive a 1997 Chevy S-10 regular cab. Ever since i purchased it i wanted to put in some sort of a system but due to money restraints I have never been able to do so.
Background:
I live in a small town in New York with not much in regards to job opportunities for 16 year olds. So, because of this, i starting workin at Mcdonalds, the only fast food place around which is about five min. from my house. I deff. didnt want to work there but i decided that if i wanted a vehicle for when i got my license then i would have to **** it up and stick it out for awhile. Anyways, i ended up working there for about 8 months and made about $4000, which was used to buy my truck. Then i started working at a small pizza place in town. There, i used most of that money for insurance. blah blah blah long story short, i finally where i can spare some extra money to put towards my interests.
Ive had my truck since the begining of the school year and in december got my headunit. Im not sure of the exact model number but it is an Alpine and has 3 sub pre-amp preouts (which i was instructed to do so if i intended to put a system in my truck by my friend who knows a little bit more about car audio than I).
Now, since this is a single cab truck, i am very limited on space and was worried about losing space. But, yesterday i finally made a trip to a car audio shop thats about 30 min away to see what i could do. I talk to a guy for about an hour and a half discussing possible setups. Btw, im not looking for something spectacular just something i can enjoy on my own. My friend offered to lend me an amp that he had laying around for however long i needed until i could afford my own.
Anyways, I have an appointment on Thursday for the install. We decided on a single 10inch 2ohm kicker sub. I really dont know what im takling about but the guy said that a 10 guage wiring kit would be fine for what i have. Btw, the amp is a pioneer gm-x862. It says on the side "Bridgable 2-ch power amplifier." Also, it says "Max power 760w MOSFET power supply." Could someone tell me what "MOSFET" means? How will this sound? My expectations are far from high because i know what some of you invest in your systems and this is far from that, but i just hope for something i can enjoy within the confines of my tiny cab, lol.
Im sorry if i bored you with my life story, haha, but i just wanted to give you guys/girls a chance to get to know me, considering im sure you will see me around these forums quite a bit now, with advide for speackers etc.
Thank you for your help in advance.
