New System Help Wanted...

Ok I'm new to this site and somewhat new to car stereo in general. I have a 04 Honda Accord sedan that i wanted to put a system in and i needed help with pretty much everything!

I have visited a few local shops and nothing was too appealing to what i wanted. The only thing I somewhat considered were the 12" KICKER CVX and online i found I'm very interested in the 12" Fi AUDIO subwoofers but don't know which model to get. BTL BL or Q's

My budget is between $1,500-2,000

I'm shooting for something that i can crank up if wanted because i know if i get something mediocre it just wont be happy and will end up wanting more but at the same time not wanting unbearable bass.

Thanks in advance for any replies/tips

you did the right thing.. came here first with out buying anything...

Fi is one of the best bang for the buck/quality/leading edge online companies around. the owner is the former creator of http://www.reaudio.com

the Fi Q will get a few dbs louder than that Kicker and just sound better overall

a highly recommended sub.... sealed for better sound quality or ported for more output

as far as deck, alpine, pioneer and eclipse are probably the most used around here. just depends on what options you want etc etc

i like alpine over the others, its processing (time correction, xovers etc) imo, let you dial in your music better, helping you to get the sound your looking for

i highly recommend you do component speakers up front, nothing but a sub in the rear

give us some more input, what youve heard, what you like, what youve been thinkin etc etc

tons of info for newbs.... look for my 2 posts here... http://www.caraudio.com/forum/showthread.php?t=238243

Thanks for the info nauc,

not sure if anyone would want me to demo their products but i guess you have a good point there haha.

Do you think one 12" Q would be a sufficient amount of bass because i was considering 2 of them..

and if i were to get 2 of them what kind of Wattage/RMS am i looking at for to feed them enough power for best performance because i was considering a few brands seeing that i can get them here locally such as (Kicker, Hifonics, RF)

Last thing the Q vs BL or BTL you think the Q is best for my situation?

Sorry if I am being too critical //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/crazy.gif.c13912c32de98515d3142759a824dae7.gif

The Q will be plenty loud. But it all really depends on how much you want. its hard to describe via internet.

Matter of fact I DID NOT need/want something loud

I was just looking for nice deep Lows, pretty much just good clean bass...

Should i go with (1) 15? or (2) 12" Fi/BL/BTL/Q

i wouldnt go with the HDC312, its more of a spl sub

Fi's BTL is their spl sub, getting real loud is the goal of those, and the Bl fits in between the Q and the BTL

imo, i think youll be more than happy with a 15" Q

in 2 cubes sealed, it will sound a lot like JLs 13w7. id go and demo that sub if you havent already

I havent had a chance to demo the 13w7 but because every shop around here keeps telling me JL is unreliable and blow easy which is hard to believe.

15" Q it is though, i've looked at a couple videos and its pretty much exactly what i wanted //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

( just wondering 15" Q vs 15" Kicker Cvx are almost the same right depending on the amp? )

I'm new to enclosures also so is there somewhere i can read up on the best dimensions for the Q15?? i see you mentioned 2 cubes sealed enclosure but all i got from that was "sealed box" lol...

thanks again nauc

um no, the Q will spank the Kicker

Fi recommends 2-2.6 cubes for a sealed box. the bigger the box, the louder the real low stuff will be

https://ssl.perfora.net/www.ficaraudio.com/sess/utn;jsessionid=154791451212739/shopdata/0020_Q/product_overview.shopscript

read this, its about box types.. http://mobile.jlaudio.com/support_pages.php?page_id=146

and those dealers near you, are scum. W7's dont blow by themselves

I'm pretty set on the 15" Q can't wait to make put in my order //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

options: 1 Ohm or 2 ohms

someone suggested a 2 ohm setup for an amp pushing 1000-1200 RMS

does that sound about right?

One more thing, i need an amp to push it any suggestions for a

-Kicker

-Hifonics

-RF

im thinking about these because i can get them @ an affordable price here locally but idk which model as far as sufficient power goes.

The reason most likely for that is bc of ppl not putting them in the right enclosure, tuning right, or over powering them

That is a positive about the JL w7 is for such a big sub it doesnt take a huge amount to power it

That just my honest opinion

get the dual 2 ohm and wire it in Parallel to get a 1 ohm load. heres info how to do that... http://mobile.jlaudio.com/support_pages.php?page_id=161

the reason to run it at 1 ohm is, most amps put out more power at 1 ohm vs 2 ohms or 4 ohms, so youll get more wattage for you dollar

this amp is a very solid/reliable amp with a 5 year warranty thats hard to beat for the money and iirc, it was benched at 1400+ watts at 1 ohms.. headroom is nice //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

and youre going to need this sooner or later. http://subwoofertools.com/forum/setgain.asp

realm has 0db tones in their download section

you know that, i know that and the dealer knows that, but he apparently doesnt relay that important detail to his potential customers...
