New subwoofer recommendation

I have a Rockford Power 800.4 which I will be bridging two of the channels at 4ohms for 400w rms for the sub.

Which subs would you recommend for more SQ than SPL but I still want it to bump pretty good. I listen to mostly rock and punk with some rap thrown in. I have a sealed box that is .7 cubic feet for a 10 but I'd rather get a 12. I'll just make the hole bigger.

Thanks in advance.

If you are for sound quality, I would recommend you stick with a 10" for that box size. There are not a whole lot of 12's that will excel in a sound quality focused system with that box size. For a "SQ" box setup, you want the box to be on the larger side rather than the smaller side, and .7cuft is rather small for the vast majority of 12's. So, IMHO that box size would work much better for a 10" sub.

How much are looking to spend?

At the most 200. I was looking at ID since they say their subs can go in smaller boxes with good SQ.

I just looked up the RE SE and they are dual 4ohm which doesn't work for me. I think I need a dual 2ohm sub to make it 4ohms.

Yup. The 10IDv3 and IDQ10v2 would both work for ya. That amp might even be slightly too powerful for them, so you need to be careful there.

Also check into the Rl-i series from Soundsplinter: http://soundsplinter.com/rli_series_10_and_12_inch_subwoofer.html

And Adire Audio Koda10 or Creative Sounds SX10 would work aswell .

OZ Audio Matrix Elite 10.2

Correct you are. You need either dual 2ohm or a SVC 4ohm sub.

For the IDQ 10's the recommended enclosure size is .25-.5, and for the 12's it is .65-1. That's why I was leaning towards the 12 for that brand. And it can handle more power.

But if you look in their tech sheets (http://imagedynamicsusa.com/website/tech/index.html) the .7cuft enclosure is listed on the "large" side for the 10", and on the "small" side for the 12"....and, like I said, IMO for a SQ setup you want to be on the "large" side of things for better transient response and better LFE extension. But, if you wanna give the 12's a try, then go for it. I personally would go with the 10" though, especially if that is .7cuft gross and not .7cuft net. But I don't wanna talk you out of anything.....just giving you my opinion.

That's a good point. I'll see if there is any more space and then build a bigger box for the 12. If there isn't I'll get the 10. I just want to use the full power of the amp if I can.

Also, are box volume recommendations figured with the speaker in or out of the box?

Thanks for all your help.

Box volume recommendations are net, meaning; that is the final volume you need inside the enclosure after all displacements (such as sub displacement, for a sealed box...since the sub is going to take up some air volume within the box, you need to subtract the amount of air that the sub displaces from the gross box volume to determine your net internal volume).

That's why I said, if that .7cuft is the gross internal volume (i.e. that's what it's internal dimensions measure), then after you put the sub in the box you are going to have even less volume within the box.
